Eric Roberts<\/strong><\/a> remained tight-lipped when asked whether his family has read his recently released memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll let you ask them,\u201d Roberts, 68, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Tuesday, September 24, after his Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a> performance.<\/p>\n

In his memoir, Eric touches on his relationships with his sister, Julia Roberts<\/strong>, and his daughter, Emma Roberts<\/strong>, as well as his struggles with addiction. (Eric welcomed Emma, now 33, with ex Kelly Cunningham<\/strong> in 1991.)<\/p>\n

After the memoir\u2019s release, Eric said during an interview on News Nation<\/a> that he hadn\u2019t spoken to Julia, 56, \u201cin a week.\u201d Eric noted that he\u2019s been \u201cout of town\u201d filming season 33 of Dancing With the Stars<\/em>, which kicked off earlier this month. (Eric and his partner, Britt Stewart<\/strong>, survived Tuesday\u2019s double elimination<\/a> on the ABC reality series.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA complicated relationship. While Julia Roberts and her older brother, Eric Roberts, have a typical sibling bond now, that wasn\u2019t always the case. \u201cJulia and I have always been fine,\u201d Eric revealed during a June 2022 appearance on the\u00a0\u201cBehind The Velvet Rope With David Yontef\u201d podcast. \u201cI think years and years ago, I was doing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When asked whether he\u2019s in \u201cregular\u201d communication with Julia \u2014 and what he anticipated her thoughts may be after reading the memoir \u2014 Eric didn\u2019t offer any details. \u201cYou\u2019ll have to ask her, buddy,\u201d he said during the Wednesday, September 25, interview. \u201cIf you want her opinion, ask her her opinion. \u2026 What you have to understand is [that] my sister and my daughter want to speak for themselves. So I would be trespassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the book, Eric threw shade<\/a> at Julia\u2019s performance in Steel Magnolias<\/em>. \u201cJulia was good in Mystic Pizza<\/em>, great in Pretty Woman<\/em>, but not so much in Steel Magnolias<\/em>, in my opinion, even though it brought Julia her first Academy Award nomination,\u201d Eric wrote in the memoir, per Entertainment Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to sound like an actor talking, or a jealous sibling, but I don\u2019t think her performance held up in that movie,\u201d Eric continued. \u201cWhen I saw her in Steel Magnolias<\/em>, I thought, \u2018OK, good, she\u2019s almost a good actor, and one day she\u2019s gonna be one.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While reflecting on his decision to include his true feelings on Julia\u2019s role in the 1989 film, Eric claimed it \u201cnever occurred\u201d to him that the comment may gain attention until after the book was written. \u201cI don\u2019t write a book with [headlines] in mind,\u201d he said. \u201cEspecially a personal book like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric pointed out that he said \u201cgreat things\u201d about Julia in the memoir. \u201cMy sister\u2019s a great actor,\u201d he said. \u201cI just didn\u2019t like that movie. I thought it was a melodrama, I thought it was a soap opera. But that\u2019s an opinion. And like a nose, we all have one.\u201d<\/p>\n
