California cool! Summerland<\/em><\/a> lasted only two seasons, but it launched many of its actors into stardom and continues to be a memorable show for its fans.<\/p>\n The WB series, which ran from 2004 to 2005, centered on Ava Gregory (Lori Loughlin<\/strong><\/a>), who became the guardian to her two nephews Bradin (Jesse McCartney<\/strong><\/a>) and Derrick Westerly (Nick Benson<\/strong><\/a>) and her niece Nikki (Kay Panabaker<\/strong>) after their parents died in a tragic car accident. The Westerly kids left their home in Kansas to live with their aunt in Summerland, California.<\/p>\n Ava, who was a struggling fashion designer, had some help from her roommates and friends in taking care of the trio. She lived with her BFF and business partner Susannah Rexford (Merrin Dungey<\/strong><\/a>), former boyfriend, Johnny Durant (Shawn Christian<\/strong>) \u2014 who never stopped loving her \u2014 and former pro-surfing pal Jay Robertson (Ryan Kwanten<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n The cast was rounded out with Taylor Cole<\/strong>, who played Erika Spalding, Jay\u2019s love interest \u2014 and later Bradin\u2019s \u2014 and Zac Efron<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Cameron Bale, who dated Nikki. Efron didn\u2019t become a series regular until season 2, but he made a big impression on fans. For his part, Efron was excited to act alongside his costar crush<\/a>, Loughlin.<\/p>\n \u201cI look up to her so much,\u201d the High School Musical<\/em><\/a> alum told Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> in March 2018. \u201cShe was like something out of Sports Illustrated<\/em> every time I saw her. I really love her.\u201d<\/p>\n Loughlin, who was already a household name before the project, reminisced about her time on Summerland<\/em> to Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively<\/a> in May 2018. After reuniting with McCartney at Super Bowl LII in February of that year, she had the drama on her mind.<\/p>\n \u201cI wish it was on longer,\u201d the Full House<\/em><\/a> alum told Us<\/em> at the time. \u201cI helped create that show so it was my baby.\u201d<\/p>\n Loughlin was a co-creator, producer and writer on the teen drama, but that doesn\u2019t mean she wants to see it rebooted.<\/p>\n \u201cI suppose anything is possible, but I don\u2019t know who would even take it up and do it. So many years have gone by,\u201d she said in 2018. \u201cI loved it too.\u201d<\/p>\n The When Calls the Heart<\/em><\/a> actress did, however, have a few ideas of what her character would be doing now. \u201cMaybe Johnny and Ava would be married,\u201d Loughlin told Us<\/em>. \u201cI think we were sort of heading in that direction. So maybe they would be together.\u201d<\/p>\n McCartney told Us<\/em> exclusively in May 2020, that he hasn\u2019t ruled out a Summerland<\/em> reboot.<\/p>\n
