Moment\u2019s SuperCage is a new smartphone accessory that improves the functionality and ergonomics of using a smartphone as a pro video camera. Smartphone cages for mobile filmmakers aren\u2019t a new idea \u2014 even Moment sells a cheaper alternative<\/a> \u2014 but the SuperCage is its first one integrating a USB-C hub so that there\u2019s one less accessory needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n That way, smartphones with a USB-C port can record to an external storage device (which, in the case of the iPhone 15 and 16, unlocks ProRes 4K recording at 60fps if the storage is fast enough<\/a>) while still charging from a power bank through the 100W passthrough port.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The company has made a name for itself with accessories like lenses<\/a> and MagSafe tripod mounts<\/a> that make it easier to film and shoot with a smartphone. The SuperCage is available for preorder through Kickstarter<\/a> for $199, and while there are always risks with backing crowdfunded products, Moment has already successfully delivered 10 other products through the platform.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The SuperCage uses an expanding clamp to securely hold a smartphone inside an aluminum ring that can be upgraded with handles and mounts for attaching other filmmaking gear.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Any accessory compatible with NATO rails can be attached to the top and sides of the SuperCage, while the bottom of the cage can be attached to tripods and other mounts compatible with ARCA rails.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The hub on Moment\u2019s SuperCage also includes an SD card slot, microphone and headphone ports, a total of four USB-C ports, and a 4K HDMI port so the rig can be connected to a larger display. Delivery for those who back the SuperCage\u2019s Kickstarter campaign is expected to start in December 2024. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
