Drea de Matteo<\/strong><\/a> had quite the journey from cameo to series regular on Sons of Anarchy<\/em> \u2014 and her role on Desperate Housewives<\/em><\/a> was involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cSons was always meant to be a cameo on the pilot, and that was it,\u201d de Matteo, 52, told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively while promoting the relaunch of her ULTRAFREE<\/a> clothing line. \u201cWhen I said yes to doing the show, they wanted to keep me. And I was like, \u2018Sure, I would love to.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Who am I going to be?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

De Matteo appeared in the Sons of Anarchy<\/em> pilot in September 2008 as Jax Teller\u2019s (Charlie Hunnam<\/strong>) pregnant ex-wife, Wendy Case. After the show \u201ctested through the roof\u201d on FX, the team behind the show asked for her to stay onboard.<\/p>\n

\u201cFX comes back and they\u2019re like, \u2018Well, we\u2019d like you to stay, but we don\u2019t really need you, so we\u2019re going to cut your pay in half.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Yeah, I don\u2019t think so,\u2019\u201d she recalled to Us<\/em>. \u201cSo, I went and did Desperate Housewives<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSons of Anarchy hooked fans in for seven seasons from 2008 to 2014 and helped push star Charlie Hunnam to superstardom. The FX series followed single father Jax Teller (Hunnam) as he tried to get his outlaw biker gang, Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original (SAMCRO), back on the right side of the law [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When the sixth season of Desperate Housewives<\/em> premiered in September 2009, de Matteo made her debut<\/a> as new neighbor Angie Bolen. However, while she was on the ABC show, the actress became \u201cf\u2014ing obsessed\u201d with Sons of Anarchy<\/em> \u2014 so she asked for her job back, leading to a recurring role starting in season 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wrote Shelby Stivale Kurt [Sutter]<\/strong> and I go, \u2018You want me to come back? I\u2019ll do it for nothing.\u2019 It wasn\u2019t him. It was FX that was strong arming me in the beginning,\u201d de Matteo explained. \u201cI came back and it was for very small pay, but I wasn\u2019t always in Los Angeles so I couldn\u2019t always show up.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the Sons of Anarchy<\/em> seventh and final season, de Matteo was upped to series regular.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Kurt] was like, \u2018Look, FX is going to pay you, and you need to be in town for a month. I was like, \u2018OK, I\u2019ll do it,\u2019\u201d she shared. \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018I want to end the story with you.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Wow.\u2019 That\u2019s a turn, everybody hated Wendy, but OK. She redeems herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sons of Anarchy<\/em> season finale, which aired in December 2014, showed de Matteo\u2019s Wendy taking Jax\u2019s sons, Abel (who just found out she was his biological mother) and Thomas, to leave the town of Charming with Nero (Jimmy Smits<\/strong>).<\/p>\n
