Brat summer<\/a> is technically over, but brat fall is just getting started thanks to Charli XCX<\/strong><\/a> and Troye Sivan<\/strong>\u2019s Sweat<\/em> tour<\/a>, which touched down in NYC with a very special guest.<\/p>\n

During the Monday, September 23, show at Madison Square Garden, Charli, 32, surprised the crowd when she brought out Lorde<\/strong><\/a> for a performance of the \u201cGirl, So Confusing\u201d remix. In videos of the moment shared via social media, Lorde, 27, walked up on stage just as the second verse was starting, wearing an all-black outfit.<\/p>\n

The \u201cRoyals\u201d singer styled her hair in long waves to look like Charli\u2019s and wore her coat draped off her shoulders as well, making it difficult to tell the two pop stars apart in the dim arena lighting.<\/p>\n

The crowd, meanwhile, went wild, with the screams almost drowning out Lorde\u2019s first few lyrics. (Attendees eventually calmed down enough to sing along with the duo.)<\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s concert also featured a surprise appearance by Addison Rae<\/strong>, who performed her song \u201cDiet Pepsi\u201d with Charli and Sivan, 29.<\/p>\n

Charli and Lorde released the studio version of their \u201cGirl, So Confusing\u201d collaboration<\/a> in June, shortly after Charli\u2019s sixth album, Brat<\/em><\/a>, debuted. The duet came after rumors circulated that the song was about Lorde, who has frequently been compared to Charli because of their similar aesthetics (though their music sounds very different).<\/p>\n

\u201cI was super jealous of the success that [\u2018Royals\u2019] got, and that Ella got,\u201d Charli explained in a May interview with Rolling Stone UK<\/em>. \u201cYou piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: \u2018She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick.\u2019 You create these parallels and think, \u2018Well, that could have been me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo met when working together on the March 2021 song \u201cSpinning.\u201d Daniel also assisted the \u201cBoom Clap\u201d singer with various songs on her Crash album, which was released in March 2022. One month later, Charli addressed the song again during an appearance on Bowen Yang<\/strong> and Matt Rogers<\/strong>\u2019 \u201cLas Culturistas\u201d podcast, but she didn\u2019t specifically say the track was about Lorde.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think you become a bad feminist if you maybe don\u2019t see eye to eye with every single woman,\u201d she explained in June. \u201cThat\u2019s not the nature of human beings. There\u2019s a competitiveness between us. There\u2019s envy. There\u2019s camaraderie. There\u2019s all of these different dynamics.\u201d<\/p>\n
