Captain Sandy Yawn<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s onscreen proposal to Leah Shafer<\/strong> brought out a side to her that she\u2019s excited for Below Deck Mediterranean<\/em><\/a> fans to see.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty special. You never see me emotional on the show [except] maybe a few times with the crew,\u201d Sandy, 59, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> ahead of the season 9 finale<\/a> on Monday, September 23. \u201cWhen you\u2019re on TV you think, \u2018Oh my God, just don\u2019t lose it.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The captain didn\u2019t hold back this time around, adding, \u201cYou might see me lose a little bit of it because it\u2019s so emotional and it\u2019s pure love. I was very nervous and I never get nervous. It was incredible. So I think when the viewers watch that, they might see a different Sandy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this season, Sandy confessed to chief stew Aesha Scott that she was going to ask Leah<\/a>, 50, to marry her. Sandy told Us<\/em> she didn\u2019t have any doubts when it came to capturing the moment for the hit Bravo series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never really thought of it. I discussed it with showrunner [Nadine Rajabi<\/strong>] just because I met Leah when I was on Below Deck<\/em>,\u201d she explained. \u201cPeople followed the story of Leah and I and after talking to the show runner, we both agreed the show was the reason we met and why not share that with the viewers?\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple started dating in 2019 when Leah reached out to Sandy<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s because of Below Deck<\/em> that Leah reached out to me because she watched the show and she wrote to me, \u2018Congratulations on the show. Many blessings.\u2019 And that caught my attention,\u201d Sandy recalled. \u201cSo I clicked on a link and she was singing. I was like, \u2018OK, I have to meet her.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandy said filming for Below Deck Med<\/em><\/a> didn\u2019t faze Leah, which leaves the door open for more appearances in the future. \u201cI hope so. It would be great,\u201d the reality star noted. \u201cWe\u2019re happy and we\u2019re in love. [Leah is] open and she\u2019s not afraid of the camera. She respects the fourth wall. She\u2019s been there, done that.\u201d<\/p>\n
