\nJanet made her controversial remark about Kamala in her chat with The Guardian, which was published on Saturday (21.09.24), when her interviewer said the politician could become the first black woman to be elected US president. <\/p>\n
\nJanet replied: \u201cWell, you know what they supposedly said? She\u2019s not black. That\u2019s what I heard. That she\u2019s Indian.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nWhen the Guardian reporter told Janet that Kamala is actually both, the singer falsely declared: \u201cHer father\u2019s white. That\u2019s what I was told. I mean, I haven\u2019t watched the news in a few days.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was told that they discovered her father was White.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer added she wasn\u2019t sure if the US was \u201cready\u201d for a \u201cwoman of colour\u201d as leader in the White House, adding: \u201cI don\u2019t know. Honestly, I don\u2019t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don\u2019t know. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKamala\u2019s mother Dr Shyamala Gopalan was raised in India and her father Donald J Harris, immigrated from Jamaica to study economics at the University of California in Berkeley, which is where he met Shyamala.<\/p>\n
\nKamala\u2019s US presidential election rival Donald Trump, 78, previously sparked outrage when he made false claims about Harris’ race at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in July, saying she \u201cbecame a Black person\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cShe was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting the Indian heritage.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI didn\u2019t know she was black, until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black. So I don\u2019t know, is she Indian or is she black?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
