Back in June, Republican congressman Matt Gaetz<\/strong> received some unfortunate news when the GOP-controlled ethics committee said<\/a>\u2014in a press release!\u2014that it was still investigating the Florida lawmaker, who was the subject of a 2021 Justice Department probe<\/a> into whether he\u2019d had sex with a minor and transported her across state lines. The committee was specifically looking into allegations that he had \u201cengaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct.\u201d And this week the bad news continued on that front!<\/p>\n On Friday, NOTUS reported<\/a> that court documents filed the day prior cited affidavits from three eyewitnesses who said the congressman had attended a drug-heavy sex party in 2017 with \u201cthe 17-year-old girl at the center of the alleged sex trafficking scandal.\u201d<\/p>\n The minor, who was a junior in high school at the time, arrived in her mother\u2019s car for a July 15, 2017, party at the Florida home of Chris Dorworth,<\/strong> a lobbyist and friend of Gaetz\u2019s, according to a court filing written by defense attorneys who interviewed witnesses as part of an ongoing civil lawsuit Dorworth brought in 2023\u2026. One eyewitness cited in the court filings, a young woman referred to as K.M., provided a sworn affidavit that claimed the teenage girl was naked, partygoers were there to \u201cengage in sexual activities,\u201d and \u201calcohol, cocaine, ecstasy\u2026and marijuana\u201d were present. The teenage girl was identified in the filings only as A.B.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n Dorworth told NOTUS in a text message that he \u201cnever met\u201d the 17-year-old, \u201cnot once in my life.\u201d He also claimed, \u201cShe is\u2026lying about Matt Gaetz.\u201d<\/p>\n The House ethics probe into Gaetz initially began under former Speaker\u00a0Nancy Pelosi;<\/strong>\u00a0it was later paused\u00a0due to the Justice Department investigation. (The congressman has repeatedly denied all allegations of wrongdoing.) In February 2023, prosecutors\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0the decision not to charge the Florida lawmaker, and the House reopened its probe shortly thereafter. Earlier this year,\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that former Gaetz ally\u00a0Joel Greenberg,<\/strong>\u00a0who\u00a0pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0in 2021\u00a0to charges including sex trafficking, was cooperating with the ethics committee\u2019s investigation. Vanity Fair<\/em> has reached out to Gaetz\u2019s office for comment.
