Florence Pugh<\/strong><\/a> opened up about the online criticism she often finds herself the focus of, calling the internet \u201ca very mean place.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so hard,\u201d Florence, 28, said in the October issue of British Vogue<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s really painful to read people being nasty about my confidence or nasty about my weight. It never feels good. The one thing I always wanted to achieve was to never sell someone else, something that isn\u2019t the real me.\u201d<\/p>\n The Don\u2019t Worry Darling<\/em> star<\/a> continued, \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s confidence in hoping people like me. I think it\u2019s just, like, I don\u2019t want to be anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n While Florence said that she considers photo shoots \u201ca muscle [she\u2019s] learnt to be all right at,\u201d she doesn\u2019t consider herself a model.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a model. It\u2019s portraying a completely different version of myself that I don\u2019t necessarily believe in. You have to believe that you deserve to be in those pages being beautiful. But now I know what I want to show. I know who I want to show. I know who I want to be and I know what I look like. There\u2019s no insecurities about what I am anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n The Oxford native has never been afraid to shine a light on those who body shame her<\/a> or any other woman in the industry. In 2019, she called out a story that compared the size of her thighs to those of WWE pro Saraya Jade Bevis. Florence had recently played the wrestler in the film Fighting With My Family<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cOh dear. Singling out my \u2018chunky\u2019 thighs doesn\u2019t help normalizing an \u2018all shape & size\u2019 Hollywood. In fact that\u2019s part of the problem. I do hope people take more away from the film than the circumference of my hams,\u201d Florence wrote via X<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Midsommar<\/em> actress received backlash for her decision to wear a sheer Valentino dress<\/a> to the Haute Couture Fall\/Winter 2023 in July 2022. Despite so many critics chastising her for the look, Florence stood behind her choice.<\/p>\n The Oppenheimer<\/em> star spoke about her decision in Harper\u2019s Bazaar\u2019s<\/a> September 2022 issue.<\/p>\n \u201cI was comfortable with my small breasts,\u201d Florence said at the time. \u201cAnd showing them like that\u2014it aggravated [people] that I was comfortable. \u2026 It was just alarming, how perturbed they were. They were so angry that I was confident, and they wanted to let me know that they would never wank over me. Well, don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n Florence again broached the subject when she was interviewed by her friend Jodie Turner-Smith<\/strong> during the ELLE<\/em> Style Awards<\/a> cover shoot.<\/p>\n \u201cI speak the way I do about my body because I\u2019m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge in between my arm and my boob: I would much rather lay it all out,\u201d Florence recalled during the interview in August 2023. \u201cI think the scariest thing for me are the instances where people have been upset that I\u2019ve shown \u2018too much\u2019 of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen everything went down with the Valentino pink dress a year ago, my nipples were on display through a piece of fabric, and it really wound people up,\u201d Florence explained. \u201cIt\u2019s the freedom that people are scared of; the fact I\u2019m comfortable and happy. Keeping women down by commenting on their bodies has worked for a very long time.
