Chappell Roan has been battling depression since shooting to fame<\/p>\n
\nThe 26-year-old pop star has been open about her struggle dealing with fame and has been attending therapy sessions twice a week to deal with her new celebrity status and she’s revealed her diagnosis came as a shock because she doesn’t actually feel “sad”.<\/p>\n
\nShe told the Guardian newspaper: “I\u2019m in therapy twice a week. I went to a psychiatrist last week because I was like, I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on. <\/p>\n
\n“She diagnosed me with severe depression \u2013 which I didn\u2019t think I had because I\u2019m not actually sad. But I have every symptom of someone who\u2019s severely depressed.”<\/p>\n
\nChappell revealed her symptoms include brain fog, forgetfulness and poor focus as well as “a very lacklustre viewpoint”.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer went on to explain she thinks her problems stem from how much her life has changed over a short period of time.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: “I think it\u2019s because my whole life has changed. Everything that I really love to do now comes with baggage. If I want to go thrifting, I have to book security and prepare myself that this is not going to be normal. <\/p>\n
\n“Going to the park, pilates, yoga \u2013 how do I do this in a safe way where I\u2019m not going to be stalked or harassed?”<\/p>\n
\nIt comes after Chappell compared fame to “an abusive ex-husband”. <\/p>\n
\nIn an interview with The Face magazine, she explained: “I feel like fame is just abusive. The vibe of this \u2013 stalking, talking s*** online, [people who] won\u2019t leave you alone, yelling at you in public \u2013 is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband. <\/p>\n
\n“That\u2019s what it feels like. I didn\u2019t know it would feel this bad.” <\/p>\n
\nHowever, Chappell admitted she still loves getting positive feedback from her fans, adding: “Everyone\u2019s like, \u200b\u2018Oh yeah, she\u2019s really intense,\u2019 which, whatever, fine. <\/p>\n
\n“But I don\u2019t very often get: \u200b\u2018Oh my God, you have such a good vibe.\u2019 I think that just stems back to childhood, of [wanting] people to believe that I\u2019m a good person and me believing it, too. So it means a lot when I hear that. <\/p>\n
\n“I can\u2019t read my DMs anymore, because I cry so much. But when people are like, \u200b\u2018Whatever you\u2019re doing, it helped me\u2019 – I don\u2019t think any award or any money or whatever can be exchanged for that compliment. <\/p>\n
\n“I don\u2019t care about anything else, except giving space to people to be free. Because that\u2019s what I needed so bad: freedom.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
