Back to the galaxy! Daisy Ridley<\/strong><\/a> will reprise her role as Rey in a new Star Wars<\/em><\/a> movie set after the events of Episode IX \u2014 The Rise of Skywalker<\/em>.<\/p>\n Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy<\/strong> announced the news on Friday, April 7, at the Star Wars Celebration in London. Details about the film are scant so far, but Steven Knight<\/strong> will direct the project with a script by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The movie will follow Rey as she attempts to build a new Jedi Order<\/a> after she realized her full power in 2019\u2019s The Rise of Skywalker<\/em>. \u201cMy heart is pounding,\u201d Ridley, 30, said at the event on Friday after the film was announced. \u201cI\u2019m very thrilled to be continuing this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n Obaid-Chinoy, 44, told fans that the new movie will take place 15 years after the events of Skywalker<\/em>, which ended with the Resistance destroying the First Order. \u201cI\u2019ve always been attracted to the hero\u2019s journey and the fact that the world needs many more heroes,\u201d said the filmmaker, who directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel<\/em> last year.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Ridley admitted that she didn\u2019t know whether she would get the chance to play Rey again<\/a> in Disney\u2019s rapidly expanding Star Wars<\/em> universe. \u201cI really don\u2019t know if there are plans. I just don\u2019t know,\u201d she told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> in February. \u201cBut ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with. So, should that happen again, even once, amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n The Star Wars Celebration came with plenty of good news for fans, who can expect a ton of new shows and movies in the coming years. In addition to the Rey project, Disney announced two other full-length movies to be directed by Dave Filoni<\/strong> and James Mangold<\/strong>. Filoni\u2019s will focus on the New Republic, while Mangold\u2019s is set to explore the dawn of the Jedi Order.<\/p>\n Disney also released the first trailer for Ahsoka<\/em>, the spinoff series starring Rosario Dawson<\/strong><\/a> as Ahsoka Tano, who appeared in season 2 of The Mandalorian<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIf this does well, maybe we\u2019ll get a second season,\u201d the Daredevil alum, 43, told the crowd in London. \u201cIt\u2019s up to y\u2019all. I\u2019m ready if you are.\u201d<\/p>\n After Ahsoka<\/em> premieres in August of this year, season 2 of Andor<\/em> and season 1 of The Acolyte<\/em> are set to debut in 2024. Leslye Headland<\/strong>, the creator of The Acolyte<\/em>, said that the show will be \u201cthe furthest back in time we\u2019ve been in live action\u201d in the Star Wars<\/em> universe<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I pitched to Kathleen Kennedy was Frozen<\/em> meets Kill Bill<\/em>. Shockingly, she didn\u2019t kick me out of the building,\u201d the Bachelorette<\/em> director, 43, said. \u201cIt\u2019s High Republic near the beginning of the prequels and an exciting part of the timeline. This is when the bad guys are outnumbered. They are the underdogs. I\u2019m really excited for you guys to see things you haven\u2019t seen in live action yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
