Jinger Duggar<\/strong><\/a> and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo<\/strong><\/a>, are reflecting candidly on the early days of their union.<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, September 18, episode of their \u201cJinger & Jeremy Podcast,\u201d the couple, who tied the knot in 2016, were both surprised by their revelations about their first year of marriage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking back 8 years in [and] going, \u2018That year was a breeze.\u2019 \u2026 But then you [said] last night, \u2018No, I think it was the hardest,\u2019 and I think I agree with you,\u201d Vuolo, 37, said. \u201cWe faced so much adjustment and so much change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duggar, 30, noted that the struggles had \u201cnothing to do\u201d with her and Vuolo.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo\u2018s love story may have been a whirlwind \u2014 but their connection is undeniably strong. The couple were introduced through Jinger\u2019s sister Jessa Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, who met the former soccer star in Texas before he visited the Duggar family in Arkansas. Jinger reflected on the early days [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe got along super well,\u201d she said. \u201cI would say there were challenges just from me adjusting. It was more, like, adjustment challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 19 Kids and Countin<\/em>g alum shared that living with Vuolo for the first time and starting their lives together was the \u201ceasiest part\u201d of the life change. It was leaving behind her big family in Arkansas for Laredo, Texas, that left her reeling.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized in that time [that] I was afraid to go to coffee with a friend. I was petrified in fear of having to do things by myself because I had a security blanket of having people around me all the time, whether that was siblings or even a close friend,\u201d said Jinger, who is one of Jim Bob<\/strong> and Michelle Duggar<\/strong>\u2019s 19 kids. \u201cI was so used to that setting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reality TV personality explained that \u201csomething shifted\u201d for her after leaving her \u201ccomfort zone\u201d for the first time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Duggar family has been captivating viewers with their unique courtship process since 2008 \u2014 and have kept the tradition going strong ever since. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar share 19 children: sons Joshua, John-David, Joseph, Josiah, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, Justin and Jackson, and daughters Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy-Anna, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie. \u201cIt was really hard. I had to figure out who I was as a person,\u201d she said. \u201cI had the identity crisis of, \u2018OK. I know who I was in my family, but who am I as an individual now?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Jinger was also beginning to reexamine some of the fundamentalist Christian teachings she\u2019d been raised with.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was realizing that some of these things that I thought I really held dear, like the teachings of [Institute in Basic Life Principles founder] Bill Gothard<\/strong>, I\u2019m realizing I\u2019m not believing that anymore,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd that was a huge shift.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jinger wrote a book about her conservative Christian upbringing, Becoming Free Indeed: Disentangling Faith From Fear<\/em><\/a>, which was released in January 2023. In the memoir, she recalled being taught she \u201cneeded to perform\u201d for her future spouse in order to \u201ckeep him faithful,\u201d which resulted in her not expressing opinions during her first year of marriage.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Jeremy] gently encouraged me to speak my mind and let him know if I didn\u2019t agree with something \u2014 and to not apologize for that. He didn\u2019t want me to perform or be fake. He wanted me to be myself. More than once he said, \u2018Jing, you\u2019re not a Stepford wife,\u2019\u201d she wrote. \u201cThe first time he said that, I asked, \u2018What\u2019s a Stepford wife?\u2019 When he explained the concept, I realized \u2026 he wanted me to think for myself and figure out what my convictions were and what I liked and disliked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJinger Duggar and several of her siblings have seemingly strayed from their conservative parents\u2019 rules through the years \u2014 and have shocked some fans in the process. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar raised their 19 kids in a devout Baptist home, which came with some strict guidelines. Daughters were taught to dress modestly, meaning they [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite realizing in hindsight how challenging their first year of marriage was, Jinger said on Wednesday that \u201cthe growth that took place over that time was huge.\u201d<\/p>\n
