He was 59 years old. She grieved his passing for two years before auditioning for <em>The Golden Bachelor <\/em>in 2023. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-joan-vassos-paid-tribute-to-him-on-the-3rd-anniversary-of-his-death\">Joan Vassos Paid Tribute to Him on the 3rd Anniversary of His Death<\/h2>\n<p>Joan honored her late husband with an Instagram post in January 2024. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C2Pgl5fOZ7f\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">photo<\/a> had Joan and John posing with their children, while wearing all-white outfits on a dock. \u201cIt\u2019s been three years,\u201d she began the post<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C2Pgl5fOZ7f\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\"background:#FFF;border:0;border-radius:3px;margin: 1px;max-width:540px;min-width:326px;padding:0;width:99.375%;width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px);width:calc(100% - 2px)\"\/>\n<p>In the caption, the Golden Bachelorette wrote about how difficult it can be to navigate the grief that comes with losing a husband. \u201cSome days it seems like it just happened and I can\u2019t catch my breath, still feeling the shock of it,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther days it feels like he\u2019s been gone a lifetime, those days are worse because I\u2019m afraid the memories are fading,\u201d she wrote. \u201cFor years I\u2019ve tried to think of how to memorialize him, but nothing seems quite right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joan continued and spoke about how she believes John would want to be remembered. \u201cHe was the husband that always made me feel safe and cherished. He was the parent that was always the fun one because that\u2019s all he knew how to do\u2026lucky kids because fun in his book was generally epic,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-joan-vassos-and-john-had-4-children-together\">Joan Vassos and John Had 4 Children Together<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout their marriage, Joan had four children with John. They have two daughters Allison and Erica and two sons Nicholas and Luke. Her kids were also featured in a preview for <em>The Golden Bachelorette<\/em>. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-john-encouraged-joan-vassos-to-meet-someone-after-he-passed\">John Encouraged Joan Vassos to Meet Someone After He Passed<\/h2>\n<p>Prior to joining <em>The Golden Bachelor, <\/em>Joan admitted that she was finding it difficult to will herself back into dating in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpbf.com\/article\/the-golden-bachelorette-would-like-to-clarify-a-few-things-about-aging\/60799515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with<em> <\/em>CNN. \u201cI did not want to spend my life alone, so I knew that I had to take action, but my heart wasn\u2019t there at all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Joan revealed that was when she saw a casting call for the reality series. \u201cI was like, \u2018The universe is talking to me,&#8217;\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Joan said she believed that John \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/interview-how-golden-bachelorette-joan-vassos-late-husband-had-a-little-hand-in-landing-her-the-role\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had a little hand<\/a>\u201d in helping her get to where she is now. \u201cHe told me right before he passed away, \u2018You need to go out and find somebody else. You were the best wife in the world and I want you to be happy,&#8217;\u201d she told <em>Entertainment Tonight<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Joan also said that getting John\u2019s blessing was important to her to move on. \u201cHe gave me this wonderful gift before he died, and he said go and do something, and so here I am,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Joan also revealed that her late husband was a big reality TV fan, and she knows that he\u2019d be proud. \u201cI think he\u2019s up there going, \u2018Look, that\u2019s my wife down there.
