Dick Van<\/strong> Dyke<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s absence was felt at the 2024 Emmy Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The legendary actor, 98, did not attend this year\u2019s awards ceremony<\/a>, which was held at Los Angeles\u2019 Peacock Theater on Sunday, September 15, despite being announced by the Television Academy and ABC as one of the show\u2019s celebrity presenters, per their website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reason for his absence is currently unknown. Us Weekly<\/em> has reached out to Van Dyke\u2019s rep for comment.<\/p>\n

Van Dyke was set to attend Sunday\u2019s show one week after\u00a0his Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic<\/em> special won the award for Outstanding Variety Special at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys<\/a>. At the September 7 awards show, he kept things classy in a black tux, black bow tie and white dress shirt. His wife, Arlene Silver<\/strong>, fittingly\u00a0wore a glittering silver gown and diamond jewels. While Van Dyke posed for red carpet pics at the event, he did so while sitting in a chair. Silver, 52, stood by his side upon joining him for more photos.<\/p>\n

Although Van Dyke\u2019s Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic<\/em> special won the title of Outstanding Variety Special, Van Dyke himself did not take home a trophy as he was not credited as a producer on the project, according to Variety<\/em><\/a>. Regardless, he celebrated the victory by holding the Emmys statue in several red carpet pics.<\/p>\n

While speaking with reporters<\/a> at the ceremony, Van Dyke stated that he hopes to be remembered \u201cfor laughter\u201d<\/a> and for \u201cmaking people laugh for 75 years.\u201d He added: \u201cI\u2019ve been in the business for 75 years, I can\u2019t believe it that I\u2019m still here and performing! I\u2019m looking for work if anyone\u2019s interested.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Dyke did score a separate Emmys statue earlier this year, becoming the oldest person to win a Daytime Emmy<\/a> for his guest appearance as Timothy Robicheaux on Days of Our Lives<\/em>. He also made history by becoming the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee<\/a> ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you. I don\u2019t believe this. I feel like a spy from nighttime television,\u201d he teased during his acceptance speech. \u201cI\u2019m the oldest nominee in history. I\u2019ve been playing old men all my life. If I\u2019d known I was going to live this long I\u2019d have taken better care of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
