Eric Roberts<\/a> has apologised for infamously boasting he was responsible for his sister\u2019s Hollywood stardom.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Pope of Greenwich Village\u2019 star, 68, told Vanity Fair in 2018 if he hadn\u2019t existed and acted there would \u201cbe no\u201d Julia Roberts \u2013 or his actress daughter Emma Roberts<\/a> \u2013 as celebrities or actresses.<\/p>\n

But he has now issued a public apology for the remarks in his new memoir \u2018Runaway Train: Or, the Story of My Life So Far\u2019.<\/p>\n

He said in the book: \u201cOne of the things I\u2019d like to apologise for in this book is for publicly saying on more than one occasion, \u2018If it wasn\u2019t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not only unfortunate, but it\u2019s also untrue. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cAnd I hope Julie will accept this more public apology. It was an asinine thing to have said.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nEric said about \u2018Pretty Woman\u2019 star Julia, 56, and his \u2018Scream Queens\u2019 actress daughter Emma, 33: \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I\u2019m very proud of that.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWhen Julia first came to New York, I went into (showbiz agency) William Morris and I said, \u2018Which one of you is going to sign my sister Julia?\u2019<\/p>\n

\n\u201cAnd I am so proud that everybody knows I was first, because I was first by a long shot. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cI was first to get Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, so I\u2019m proud of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nEric also used his book to share his regret for claiming his and Julia\u2019s mother Betty Lou Bredemus was dead during the early years of his career as a way to get back at their mum over his anger at her split from their father.<\/p>\n

\nHe said in his autobiography: \u201cI\u2019m only now beginning to realise the impact it must have had (on my family.)<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt was the great undoing of my relationship with my sisters. That I was unconcerned about them and focused only on my mom reading that I\u2019d killed her off was such a selfish thing to have done.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
