GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance<\/a> keeps pushing false claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, allegedly stealing and eating pets.<\/p>\n

After Tuesday’s (Sep. 10, 2024) debate, Vance told NBC’s Yamiche Alcindor<\/strong> that the small migrant community was behind several issues in the blue-collar Clark County city, including missing animals. However, police and city officials say there’s no proof to back this up<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck<\/strong> informed ABC News, \u201cThere are no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Heck’s statement, Vance doubled down on his claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe city manager said there’s no verifiable evidence. A lot of residents on the ground have said that there is,\u201d Vance told Alcindor. \u201cThat just means the city manager I think isn’t fully in touch with what’s going on in the ground there. I’ve heard from many of my own constituents who have seen these things with their own eyes, who’ve seen these abductions with their own eyes, who’ve seen geese being taken out of local parks and slaughtered in front of their eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier on Tuesday (Sep. 10, 2024), a White House national security spokesperson slammed Vance’s comments, saying, \u201cThis kind of disinformation is dangerous because there will be people that believe it no matter how ludicrous and stupid it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

This didn’t stop former President Donald Trump<\/a> from embracing the racist lie during the debate against Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> and on his Truth Social account.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThe people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country. And it’s a shame.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABC’s David Muir,<\/strong> one of the debate moderators, repeatedly fact-checked Trump’s claims, citing Heck’s statement.<\/p>\n

Trump replied, \u201cThe people on television say my dog was taken and used for food. So maybe he said that and maybe that’s a good thing to say for a city manager.\u201d<\/p>\n
