The 51-year-old singer was speaking after a screening for his new Lego-animated documentary ‘Piece By Piece’ when a woman ran to the stage holding a sign which read “Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals For Fashion”.<\/p>\n
The star – who Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director as well as running is own Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream streetwear lines – repeatedly said: “You’re right. God bless you.”<\/p>\n
He urged security to stand down and let him handle things himself, and she kept shouting as he tried to talk.<\/p>\n
He added: “Yes, I have. I have, you’re right.”<\/p>\n
\nShe was eventually escorted out, and he addressed the audience in the room as he insisted you need to be “in a position of power” to change people’s perceptions.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “You know, Rome wasn\u2019t made in a day, and sometimes when you have plans to change things and situations \u2014 you have to get in a position of power and of influence where you can change people\u2019s minds and help progression.<\/p>\n
\n“That is not necessarily the way to do it, and sitting in my position, when I have conversations on behalf of organisations like that unbeknownst to them, they come out here and do themselves a disservice.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat\u2019s okay. When that change comes, everybody in this room will remember that I told you we are actually working on that.<\/p>\n
\n“And if she would\u2019ve just asked me, I would\u2019ve told her. But instead, she wanted to repeat herself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) – who also protested his Olympic party in the summer – urged Pharrell to makes changes “now”.<\/p>\n
\nThey wrote on their website: “You made this same comment in Paris in July at your Olympics kick-off party.<\/p>\n
\n“It doesn\u2019t take \u2018work\u2019 to make a decision to stop doing something that most designers have already stopped doing.<\/p>\n
\n“You have the power to make an important change now, and if you don\u2019t, you should take it somewhere where you can.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
