Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> alum Sasheer Zamata<\/strong> has come out as a \u201clate-in-life lesbian.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m out in my life and I do keep my personal life kind of private, but I also don\u2019t necessarily want my identity to be private,\u201d Zamata, 38, said in an interview with Them<\/a> published on Monday, September 9. \u201cI guess I\u2019m one of those late-in-life lesbians. I just feel very comfortable and confident in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one asks straight people about their journey of discovery,\u201d she added of coming out publicly. \u201cBut I guess it felt like if I didn\u2019t say anything, I\u2019d be ignoring a part of me, and that doesn\u2019t feel very good. But yeah, I\u2019ve definitely had thoughts of, not necessarily keeping it a secret, but [that] there\u2019s no need to say anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comedian and actress was part of the SNL<\/em> cast from 2014 to 2017. She has also appeared in the comedy series Woke<\/em> and Home Economics<\/em>, and will next be seen in Disney+\u2019s Agatha All Along<\/em><\/a> starring Kathryn Hahn<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Zamata, she began to question her sexuality after being cast in queer roles post-SNL<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kept getting cast as queer women. I played a lesbian on Home Economics<\/em>. I played a lesbian on Woke<\/em>. I played a lesbian on Tuca & Bertie<\/em>. A lesbian on Last O.G.<\/em> I kept getting these roles,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd this is before I myself was figuring out my identity. I was like, \u2019Whoa, what are these casting directors seeing that I\u2019m not seeing?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if Hollywood \u201cmade her gay,\u201d the actress responded with a laugh, \u201cThat\u2019s what conservatives joke about all the time. They\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my God, they\u2019re turning everyone gay.\u2019 And it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
