Craig Conover<\/strong><\/a> has come a long way since he debuted on season 1 of Southern Charm<\/em><\/a> in 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started filming when I was 24, and I\u2019m 36 now,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019ve grown up a lot.\u201d The lawyer turned entrepreneur credits the series with helping him mature. \u201cReality TV is a giant mirror you hold up to yourself. Every year you\u2019re trying to get better. It holds you accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here, the \u201cPillows and Beer\u201d podcast cohost \u2014 who recently teamed up with Heluva Good! dips \u2014 talks to In Touch<\/em>\u2018s Fortune Benatar about his journey, when he\u2019s planning to settle down with his girlfriend of almost three years, Summer House<\/em> star Paige DeSorbo<\/strong><\/a>, and his biggest splurge.<\/p>\n

Would you say being on Southern Charm<\/em> has kept you in check?<\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: As you get older, you begin to accept more accountability. I did dumb stuff in my 20s, but sharing those low points has a purpose. People see I didn\u2019t start [my business]<\/a> Sewing Down South until I was 31 and that I moved in with my parents at 26. It wasn\u2019t until about a year ago that I stopped drinking for the most part. I used to be able to find a million excuses, but I\u2019m a little better now. Accountability is the biggest thing in my life.<\/p>\n

Why do you think you and Paige are such a good match? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: Being in the same industry helps. I\u2019ve dated people who weren\u2019t on TV, and that\u2019s fine, too, but it\u2019s cool to experience this with Paige. There are probably less than 150 Bravo people out there.<\/p>\n

Do you have a timeline for marriage and kids?<\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: The goal is to one day be married and have kids, but we realize we still have plenty of time<\/a> to do that. There\u2019s a false sense of urgency that\u2019s put onto you, and I was guilty of that, too. We want to just let things evolve organically. We\u2019re enjoying the life we\u2019re living now.<\/p>\n

You opened a restaurant with costar Austen Kroll in Charleston, South Carolina. What\u2019s it like working together?<\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: We butt heads a lot. We have to be careful because we\u2019ve got our podcast and we also own Carriage House in NYC. It\u2019s definitely put stress on our relationship \u2014 but it also pulls us through a lot of things.<\/p>\n

You and longtime costar Shep Rose had tension in season 9. Where do you stand now?<\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: We\u2019ve accepted that we\u2019re not alike at all; we disagree on almost everything. We\u2019re better than where we were at the reunion, and we\u2019re on a path forward.<\/p>\n

What was the problem? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: Sometimes when people grow and evolve it intimidates other people. We\u2019ve seen on the show for years that people had problems with how I lived my life. It used to be I went out too much and didn\u2019t work enough. Now I work too much and don\u2019t go out enough. But I think they\u2019ve started to accept me for who I am.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s opened up about his alcohol issues. How do you support him? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: That\u2019s a big storyline this coming season. I\u2019ve been on my own journey with drinking, and Shep is on his. Anytime you\u2019re dealing with recovery, it\u2019s very important to keep moving forward. Sometimes you\u2019re going to slip up, but I think as long as your intent is good, everyone will be OK.<\/p>\n

Go-to snack? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: Heluva Good! dip and chips bring back happy memories from when I was a kid. The French Onion is my favorite \u2014 that\u2019s the one I can\u2019t really put down once I start.<\/p>\n

What emoji do you use most often? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: The hand heart is my most frequent and the fist pound.<\/p>\n

Favorite movie? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: Recently, it\u2019s been Notting Hill<\/em>. That\u2019s been my go-to on the plane.<\/p>\n

Who has left you the most starstruck? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: Danny McBride<\/strong> lives in Charleston, and he is still my favorite person that I have met. He came up to me and Cameran<\/strong> [Eubanks<\/strong>] when he first moved there. It was the first time I had ever felt starstruck. We\u2019ve become friends over the years with Danny, but it\u2019s still just as exciting every time I run into him.<\/p>\n

Recent splurge purchase you\u2019ve made for yourself? <\/strong>
CC<\/strong>: My backyard. I basically built everything that makes me happy: an outdoor kitchen, a big- screen TV out there that I can watch from the pool. We\u2019ve got our bees and our garden.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
