Oscar winner Kathy Bates<\/strong><\/a> is set to retire from acting \u2014 after one last role.<\/p>\n

The actress, 76, told The New York Times<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Sunday, September 8, that her upcoming starring role in CBS\u2019 Matlock<\/em> reboot<\/a> will be the last of her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my last dance,\u201d Bates told the outlet.<\/p>\n

According to the Times<\/em>, the actress considered retiring before accepting Matlock<\/em> after a movie shoot \u201csoured\u201d her on acting. In fact, she called her agents and told them she wanted to retire. However, in January, they sent her the script for Matlock<\/em>, which resonated with Bates.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCelebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Rick Moranis rose to stardom in Hollywood \u2014 only to leave their acting careers in the past. Diaz got her start with a role alongside Jim Carrey in the 1994 film The Mask. The actress continued to find success with movies including My Best Friend\u2019s Wedding, There\u2019s Something About [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cEverything I\u2019ve prayed for, worked for, clawed my way up for, I am suddenly able to be asked to use all of it,\u201d she said of her upcoming television series. \u201cAnd it\u2019s exhausting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bates won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Annie Wilkes in 1990\u2019s Misery<\/em>. She also has two Emmy awards for her guest-starring role in Two and a Half Men<\/em> and a supporting actress role in American Horror Story: Coven<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, Bates has also had notable roles in Titanic<\/em><\/a>, Primary Colors<\/em>, About Schmidt<\/em>, Richard Jewell<\/em> and Revolutionary Road<\/em>. She most recently starred in Are You There God, It\u2019s Me, Margaret?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt becomes my life,\u201d she said of acting. \u201cSometimes I get jealous of having this talent. Because I can\u2019t hold it back, and I just want my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite her numerous accolades, Bates admitted that she didn\u2019t necessarily feel like she fit into Hollywood when she won the Oscar for Misery<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never felt dressed right or well. I felt like a misfit. It\u2019s that line in Misery when Annie says, \u2018I\u2019m not a movie star.\u2019 I\u2019m not,\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
