{"id":123671,"date":"2024-09-08T00:26:27","date_gmt":"2024-09-08T00:26:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/08\/princess-diana-admitted-she-was-ashamed-of-her-bulimia\/"},"modified":"2024-09-08T00:26:27","modified_gmt":"2024-09-08T00:26:27","slug":"princess-diana-admitted-she-was-ashamed-of-her-bulimia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/08\/princess-diana-admitted-she-was-ashamed-of-her-bulimia\/","title":{"rendered":"Princess Diana admitted she was &apos;ashamed&apos; of her bulimia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"byline\">\n<time itemprop=\"datePublished\" content=\"2024-09-08\" datetime=\"1725755187\" pubdate=\"\">8 September 2024<\/time>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/princess-diana\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,princess-diana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Princess Diana<\/a> was \u201cashamed\u201d of her bulimia.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"image-caption landscape\">Princess Diana was \u2018ashamed\u2019 of her bulimia<\/p>\n<p>The tragic royal, who was killed aged 36 in a 1997 Paris car smash, was stricken with the eating disorder just before she got married to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/prince-charles\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,prince-charles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Charles<\/a>, and continued to suffer with it as their marriage collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>Her long-time dance teacher Anne Allan said Diana asked to cancel her dance lessons before revealing she had bulimia in her recently released autobiography \u2018Dancing with Diana\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>She said Diana\u2019s lady-in-waiting Anne Beckwith-Smith called to say the princess may want to stop her lessons, but when she asked Diana the royal said she was \u201cannoyed\u201d at the move and made it clear the Palace wanted her to end the lessons and not her.<\/p>\n<p>Soon afterwards, the teacher said Diana declared she was \u201cashamed\u201d to admit she was suffering from bulimia.<\/p>\n<p>\nBut Anne said about how she feared the royal was suffering from the disorder after Diana fainted during a trip to Vancouver in 1987: \u201cI gathered that the Palace had concerns and were aware, or at least suspected the problem. <\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cI realised that they may have been worried that it could be dangerous if anyone from the outside world found out\u2026 the more I thought, the angrier I felt. <\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cIf the \u2018establishment\u2019 knew definitively, had anyone reached out to offer help and guidance? It didn\u2019t seem that they had. <\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cHad they dismissed this disease as a sign of weakness, not understanding the mental anguish Diana was in?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nAnna added she was left \u201cangry\u201d at future king Charles\u2019 affair with his now-wife Camilla at the time of Diana\u2019s bulimia battle.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe said: \u201cDid Charles think that this was acceptable behaviour, and that Diana should just turn her back and ignore what was going on? Was he relieved that his wife was in her own extramarital affair? <\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cDid it affect him at all?
