Amandla Stenberg\u00a0is sharing her honest reaction to\u00a0The Acolyte\u2019s cancellation.
Stenberg explained that although she is sad the show won\u2019t be returning, she isn\u2019t surprised.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019m going to be transparent and say it\u2019s not a huge shock for me. There has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it. That\u2019s when we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language towards us.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Stenberg felt hate from certain areas of the\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0universe\u00a0fanbase.
\u201cThis really affected me when I first got the job, because it\u2019s just not something \u2014 even though I anticipated it happening \u2014 it\u2019s not something you can fully understand what it feels like until it\u2019s happening to you. However, I feel like I\u2019ve kind of moved through those feelings in various ways, including being vocal about it myself.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Despite the online attacks, Stenberg was grateful for being able to play a role in the short-lived show,<\/p>\n\u201cOf course, I\u2019m very sad about the show being canceled. I just want to let those people know out there who supported us in that way, and supported us vocally \u2014 despite and in the face of all of the vitriol that we received and the kind of the targeted attack, I would say, we received by the alt-right \u2014 just that you were deeply loved and appreciated. And it made this job all the worthwhile for me.\u201d<\/i>
