Carrie Underwood<\/a> has vowed to be \u201ckind\u201d on \u2018American Idol\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Carrie Underwood is the newest judge on American Idol<\/p>\n
The \u2018Before He Cheats\u2019 hitmaker has replaced Katy Perry as a judge on the talent show and though the 41-year-old star \u2013 who shot to fame when she won the fourth series of the programme in 2005 \u2013 has pledged to be \u201chonest\u201d with her feedback to the contestants, she doesn\u2019t want to crush their dreams.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a surprise appearance at SiriusXM\u2019s \u2018Music Row Happy Hour in Las Vegas\u2019, she said: “I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind. And I think that\u2019s the whole point, because people are coming in and it\u2019s dreams. You\u2019re part of somebody\u2019s story from that moment on.”<\/p>\n
Despite her country music background, Carrie believes her career has shown enough versatility over the years for her to be credible in commenting on many other genres.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been so blessed to obviously be so rooted in country music, but I\u2019ve been able to be a part of many other genres or music as well.<\/p>\n
\n“I mean, I\u2019ve got a song with Papa Roach right now. It\u2019s a lot of fun.<\/p>\n
\n“I like to think that I am versatile. And, hopefully, when I listen to people come and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on in terms of what music I\u2019m thinking.”<\/p>\n
\nFellow judge Lionel Richie recently praised Carrie as a \u201cgreat\u201d addition to the panel.<\/p>\n
\nHe told E! News: “It makes a lot of sense. It\u2019s not someone we have to get used to. And the fact that she has a great story, she came from \u2018American Idol\u2019.<\/p>\n
\n“What a great judge, now we don’t have to explain anymore, ‘We know how you feel.’ As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval that says, ‘American Idol.’ She’s been there, done that.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, third panelist Luke Bryan joked Carrie will need to \u201cup her therapist\u201d as a result of working with them.<\/p>\n
\nAsked what advice he has for Carrie, the 48-year-old star said in a TikTok video: “Up her therapist. If she has a therapist, she\u2019s probably going to have to double to deal with me and Lionel.”<\/p>\n
\nLuke subsequently joked that he was happy to assist his new co-star.<\/p>\n
\nLuke quipped: “Do therapists do gift cards where I can call her therapist and gift her a voucher?”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
