While speaking to New York magazine, Charli XCX addressed her tweet declaring, “kamala IS brat” which then kicked off a media thinkpiece storm as well as being embraced by Harris’ campaign. The tweet, which was sent off while she hung out in her LA pool waiting for her fiance to finish making lunch, was meant as “something positive and lightearted” rather than a political endorsement. The interviewer also notes that Charli is British.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be on the right side of democracy, the right side of women\u2019s rights, is hugely important to me. I\u2019m happy to help to prevent democracy from failing forever,\u201d she said rather earnestly to the New York magazine interviewer. \u201cI obviously knew what I was doing.”<\/p>\n

She has no intentions of becoming a political artist. \u201cI\u2019m not Bob Dylan, and I\u2019ve never pretended to be. My music is not political. Everything I do in my life feeds back into my art. Everything I say, wear, think, enjoy \u2014 it all funnels back into my art. Politics doesn\u2019t feed my art.\u201d<\/p>\n
