Niall Horan<\/strong><\/a> had a special surprise up his sleeves during his Friday, August 23, concert in Dublin \u2014 a duet with Ed Sheeran<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan you please give it up for my good friend and the great Ed Sheeran,\u201d Horan, 30, told concertgoers on Friday, per video footage shared via his social media<\/a> pages. \u201cLet\u2019s have a bit of nostalgia [and play] a song that this man wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n

Horan was speaking about \u201cLittle Things,\u201d a 2012 song made famous by his former band One Direction.<\/p>\n

While the duet appeared to be a sweet moment between friends, fervent fans know it also put past bad blood in the rearview mirror.<\/p>\n

Sheeran, 33, wrote One Direction\u2019s \u201cLittle Things\u201d with Fiona Bevan<\/strong>, who previously told Songwriting Magazine<\/i><\/a> in 2019 that the true \u201c50\/50\u201d collaboration stemmed from her initial idea. The Grammy nominee went on to write 1D\u2019s songs \u201cMoments,\u201d \u201cOver Again\u201d and \u201c18\u201d as personal bonds with band members Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik<\/strong> and Liam Payne<\/strong> deepened.<\/p>\n

After years of post-1D friendship, Sheeran and Horan were caught in a love triangle<\/a>, now a decade ago, with fellow singer Ellie Goulding<\/strong> that inspired an apparent revenge anthem.<\/p>\n

Sheeran dated Goulding, now 37, first, once confirming that they were an item when they were seen holding hands at the 2013 MTV Music Video Awards<\/a>. While it is unknown when they broke up, Sheeran\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t\u201d the next year appeared to allege that Goulding cheated on him with Horan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never saw him as a threat \/ Until you disappeared with him to have sex, of course,\u201d Sheeran sings. \u201cIt\u2019s not like we were both on tour \/ We were staying on the same f\u2013king hotel floor \/ And I wasn\u2019t looking for a promise or commitment \/ But it was never just fun, and I thought you were different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither Sheeran nor Horan even publicly addressed the love triangle, but Goulding denied being unfaithful.<\/p>\n

After a fan questioned her fidelity in a 2023 TikTok comment, she clapped back at the notion<\/a> that she cheated on Sheeran with Horan.<\/p>\n

\u201cFalse,\u201d she commented. \u201cBut also slay.\u201d<\/p>\n

All seems to be water under the bridge. After their \u201cLittle Things\u201d duet on Friday, Horan and Sheeran then performed an acoustic rendition of Sheeran\u2019s \u201cLego House.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheeran, who wore Horan\u2019s The Show Live on Tour <\/i>merch<\/a>, even joined the Irishman backstage for a special post-show celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cMyself and Ed are here backstage and we\u2019re gonna try to split the G,\u201d Horan captioned a Saturday, August 24, Instagram<\/a> video. \u201cFor those who don\u2019t know what split the G is, basically, you have to take one to two gulps or so [of a pint of Guinness beer] and land this black-and-white line in the gap in the letter G [of the cup logo].\u201d<\/p>\n
