The actor, 47, has had another hit with the latest movie in the \u2018Deadpool\u2019 franchise but said making it was not easy in a tribute to Rob, also 47, in which he told how his pal made a cameo in the superhero film before it had to be cut.<\/p>\n
He said in an Instagram post about Rob, with whom he owns UK football team Wrexham AFC: \u201cA word on my \u2018darling\u2019 friend, @robmcelhenney. Rob very kindly did a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine which will hopefully live on in the digital extras. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhile editing a movie, they say you \u2018sometimes have to kill your darlings.\u2019 \u201cAnd with a heavy heart (and through great outside intervention) I had to kill a darling with this cameo\u2026 .\u201d<\/p>\n
Rob had a secret role as a soldier for the film, with his face hidden behind a helmet.<\/p>\n
\nRyan added the scene featuring his pal \u201cwasn\u2019t working the way we\u2019d originally constructed it\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cRob was the only reason it stayed in the cut for as long as it did, because even under a TVA mask and helmet, you can feel him smouldering with a raw and almost infinite reservoir of talent, writerly wit and, \u2018I create hit TV shows\u2019 swagger.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cDon\u2019t even get me started on Wrexham. I wouldn\u2019t know a love like @wrexham_afc if it weren\u2019t for Rob McElhenney.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRyan said making \u2018Deadpool and Wolverine\u2019 was \u201cstressful\u201d, so having Rob around had helped lighten his load.<\/p>\n
\nHe went on: \u201cI loved making this movie but it wasn\u2019t without stress. There was a lot of expectation \u2013 and I\u2019m pretty sure the most well written villain in cinema history is \u2018Expectation\u2019. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd when you do stressful stuff, it feels good when friends are nearby.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd even though I\u2019m mortified he flew all the way to London for a cameo that wasn\u2019t meant to be, I\u2019m grateful my friend was there with me on that set.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhen I see Rob, my heart-rate slows and my nervous system stops yelling at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
