Rose McGowan<\/strong><\/a> wishes she formed a friendship with Shannen Doherty<\/strong><\/a> sooner.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I have any regrets, I wish I could have gotten to know her sooner,\u201d McGowan, 50, said on the Friday, August 23, episode of the \u201cLet\u2019s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty\u201d podcast<\/a>. (Doherty\u2019s mother and inner circle are continuing the podcast in Doherty\u2019s honor.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how it would have happened, but I wish we could have,\u201d McGowan said.<\/p>\n

McGowan referred to the late actress as \u201cthe bravest, bravest champion\u201d she\u2019s known. \u201cWe were really pitted against each other,\u201d McGowan, who joined Charmed<\/em> after Doherty\u2019s dramatic exit, continued. \u201cI was just told she was fired and nobody talked about her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charmed, which premiered on The WB in 1998, made headlines from the start as Aaron Spelling hired Shannen Doherty to play one of the three Halliwell sisters, four years after she was infamously let go from Spelling Television\u2019s Beverly Hills, 90210. \u201c[Aaron] [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charmed<\/em>, which ran from 1998 to 2006, originally starred Doherty, Holly Marie Combs <\/strong>and Alyssa Milano<\/strong> as witches (and sisters) who were trying to protect the world from evil. After three seasons on the series as Prue, Doherty\u2019s departure was announced. McGowan joined the series as half-sister Paige during season 4.<\/p>\n

Doherty has been outspoken in the past about how she thought Milano<\/a>, 51, was involved in her firing. Milano has denied having the power<\/a> to have Doherty removed from production. Looking back at the drama, McGowan stood by her decision to never speak ill of Doherty once she joined the Charmed cast in her place.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refused to take the bait. They wanted me to start a war with her, and I was like, \u2018Absolutely not. I will not start a war with her,\u2019\u201d she added on Friday. \u201cAnd to her credit, she absolutely did not do that either.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGowan was grateful for the opportunity to truly connect with Doherty<\/a> toward the end of her life, saying, \u201cWhat a gift to be able to spend the last year and a half with her, really, really amazing gift.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cThe biggest misconception about her was that she was hard. But at the same time, it was the truth, but it\u2019s not who she was natively. And I would say that was the biggest misconception about me as well. We both just like to laugh. Soft, underneath it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doherty revealed her cancer diagnosis in 2015<\/a>, and after two years of chemotherapy, she was in remission. The cancer returned in 2020 as stage IV breast cancer. In November 2023, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum confirmed that the cancer has spread to her bones.<\/a><\/p>\n
