‘The Acolyte’ has been cancelled after just one season.<\/p>\n

The Acolyte, starring Amandla Stenberg, has been axed after one season<\/p>\n

The ‘Star Wars’ spin off show – which debuted earlier this year and showed the rise of the Sith around 100 years before ‘The Phantom Menace’ – has been scrapped despite the first series ending on a cliffhanger.<\/p>\n

As reported by Deadline, Lucasfilm has decided not to continue with the Disney+ programme after the conclusion of its first run.<\/p>\n

The show was created, written, and directed by Leslye Headland, and followed twins Osha and Mae (both played by Amandla Stenberg<\/a>), who were separated as kids and believed each other had been killed.<\/p>\n

Reaction to ‘The Acolyte’ was mixed, while there was some vile backlash to its inclusive cast and story featuring actors of colour and LGBTQ+ characters.<\/p>\n

\nLucasfilm is still producing ‘Star Wars’ series for Disney+, with ‘Skeleton Crew’ coming on December 3.<\/p>\n

\n‘Andor’ – which stars Diego Luna – will conclude in 2025 with its second and final season, while a second series of ‘Ahsoka’ is also in development.<\/p>\n

\nHeadland previously opened up on her approached to the first season, and how she took a similar approach to ‘Breaking Bad’ by not leaving much on the table.<\/p>\n

\nShe explained to Entertainment Weekly: “I remember reading that Vince Gilligan in writing and doing the first season of ‘Breaking Bad’ really didn’t plan on, ‘We’re getting seven more seasons, and this is what’s going to happen to Walter White’.<\/p>\n

\n“It was much more, ‘Here’s everything we got. We’re throwing everything at the wall.’ And then with the pickup, he mapped out, ‘Okay, here’s what’s going to happen over the course of however many seasons.’<\/p>\n

\n“So I took that approach with this. I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what’s going to happen?<\/p>\n

\n“And then I’d say there are four to five major mysteries and plot points that have to get hit in season 2, but until we get a proper pickup, I worry that spending a lot of time in that world \u2014 especially being in a period where I’ve worked so long on this project that honestly I’m exhausted by it coming out \u2014 to kind of jump right into like, ‘All right, season 2\u2026.’ “<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
