Kimberly Williams-Paisley<\/strong><\/a> is on the mend after undergoing vocal cord surgery following a private health battle that began two years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been going through a thing,\u201d Williams-Paisley, 52, began via Instagram<\/a> on Saturday, August 17, sharing a photo of herself at the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Father of the Bride<\/em><\/a> actress explained that her voice \u201cnever quite came back\u201d after losing it during an Alzheimer\u2019s event in Nashville \u201calmost two years ago.\u201d (Williams-Paisley and her sister, Ashley Williams<\/strong><\/a>, have been Alzheimer\u2019s advocates for years after their late mother died after suffering from the illness.)<\/p>\n

Williams-Paisley said the experience was \u201cembarrassing\u201d and \u201cscary\u201d as she tried \u201ceverything\u201d she could to heal it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have damage to my laryngeal nerve,\u201d she revealed, noting the doctors were finally able to figure out the problem. The diagnosis led to surgery earlier that week. \u201cIt is sounding so much better!!\u201d Williams-Paisley shared, joking, \u201cI have a badass scar that\u2019s smiling at me across my neck,\u201d which she warned might be gnarly for the squeamish.<\/p>\n

Williams-Paisley confessed that she didn\u2019t want to share her journey<\/a> earlier because \u201cit felt too vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her health battle, the Hallmark star learned that she \u201ctook for granted my ability to \u2018use my voice\u2019\u201d whether it was for her job, a good cause or at a \u201cloud dinner party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, Williams-Paisley said she became the \u201cquietest in the room,\u201d which left her feeling \u201cmeek\u201d and not herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve felt trapped in my body,\u201d she explained, recalling feelings of \u201cshame and self-loathing\u201d at times. Williams-Paisley experienced many highs and lows including \u201chealing & laughing & crying & explaining.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following her three-hour laryngoplasty, which helped \u201cplump up\u201d her paralyzed vocal cord to better interact with her healthy one, Williams-Paisley is on the road to recovery. She has also realized how physically losing her voice has made her a more well-rounded individual.<\/p>\n
