Kelly Ripa<\/strong><\/a> shared a tribute to Phil Donahue<\/strong> after his death<\/a> at age 88.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood friends are hard to come by and even harder to lose,\u201d Ripa, 53, wrote via Instagram on Monday, August 19. \u201cTo a life well lived.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post included a photo of herself and husband Mark Consuelos<\/strong><\/a>, who she married in 1996, with the late talk show host and his wife, Marlo Thomas<\/strong>. Ripa added, \u201cWe love you Marlo and will miss Phil eternally \ud83d\udc94 #ripphildonahue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Phil Donahue Show<\/em> host \u201cpassed away peacefully following a long illness,\u201d according to a statement shared by his family on Monday. Thomas, his wife of 44 years, was by his side with \u201chis sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ripa and Consuelos took the photo with Donohue and Thomas in April 2021, when they were interviewed on \u201cDouble Date with Marlo Thomas & Phil Donahue<\/a>\u201d podcast. Thomas, now 86, and Donahue interviewed longtime couples about enduring love. During the recording with the Live With Kelly and Mark<\/em> hosts, Thomas revealed that she didn\u2019t think marriage was in the cards for her before meeting her man.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll my girlfriends got married. I was a bridesmaid a million times,\u201d Thomas shared. \u201c[I said,] \u2018I\u2019m gonna be an actress. I\u2019m free, I\u2019m going to London to live for a year and do a play. I\u2019m going to do this, I\u2019m going to do that.\u2019 [A relationship] just wasn\u2019t for me. And then I met Mr. Blue Eyes here and it was like, \u2018Maybe I do like this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Ripa expressed her shock. \u201cI can\u2019t picture the two of you without each other!\u201d she replied. \u201cYou really are peanut butter and jelly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas happily recalled her first run-in with Donahue when she spoke to Us Weekly<\/em>\u2018s 25 Things You Don\u2019t Know About Me<\/a> in September 2023. \u201cI first met my husband as a guest on his talk show,\u201d she recalled. \u201cWe flirted like mad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas appeared on Donahue in 1977 and married the host in 1980.<\/p>\n
