Kevin Costner<\/strong><\/a> and Taylor Sheridan<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s offscreen tension played a part in their PaleyFest absences<\/a>, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe ongoing issues between Kevin, who\u2019s also an executive producer, and Taylor is what led to the last-minute cancelation,\u201d the insider says. \u201cIt\u2019s been an ongoing power play between them<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> star, 68, chose to forgo the Saturday, April 1, event in Los Angeles due to his strained relationship with the show\u2019s creator<\/a>, 52.<\/p>\n \u201cKevin didn\u2019t want to come across as unauthentic and he would have if he was forced to dodge uncomfortable questions about their working relationship,\u201d the source tells Us<\/em>. \u201cIt seemed like a lose-lose situation for him. It just wasn\u2019t worth it to Kevin.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s \u201cno secret\u201d that the Oscar winner<\/a> and the Hell or High Water<\/em> writer \u201cbutt heads,\u201d the insider says, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s safe to say that the drama behind the scenes is far from over.\u201d<\/p>\n Costner \u2014 who has played John Dutton on the Paramount Network series<\/a> since its 2018 premiere \u2014 was slated to attend a PaleyFest panel, screening and Q&A with fans over the weekend. Sheridan and executive producer David Glasser<\/strong> as well as lead cast members Kelly Reilly<\/strong><\/a>, Cole Hauser<\/strong><\/a>, Luke Grimes<\/strong><\/a>, Kelsey Asbille<\/strong>, Wes Bentley<\/strong><\/a>, Gil Birmingham<\/strong> and Jacki Weaver<\/strong> were all listed on the original schedule.<\/p>\n PaleyFest honors only a handful of shows every year. In addition to Yellowstone<\/em>, the 2023 lineup included The<\/em> Mandalorian<\/em><\/a>, Yellowjackets<\/em><\/a> and Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em><\/a>. Fans, who paid to attend the prestigious event, were outraged when the Yellowstone<\/em> panel was changed.<\/p>\n Us<\/em> confirmed on Saturday that attendees were not notified ahead of time that Costner and Sheridan, as well as their eight colleagues, were no longer participating<\/a>. Their costars Josh Lucas<\/strong>, Wendy Moniz<\/strong>, Mo Brings Plenty<\/strong> and Dawn Olivieri<\/strong> took their places last-minute. Press was\u00a0not informed of the talent lineup change until they were on the red carpet.<\/p>\n Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> first came under scrutiny in February when rumors about the show\u2019s return<\/a> and Costner possibly exiting the series surfaced. At the time, Deadline reported that Paramount Network was considering shifting the cowboy-centered show to a spinoff series starring Matthew McConaughey<\/strong><\/a> due to alleged scheduling issues with Costner.<\/p>\n The network denied the report<\/a>, telling the outlet in a February statement, \u201cWe have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone<\/em> and we hope that\u2019s the case for a long time to come.\u201d (McConaughey\u2019s spinoff<\/a> was officially confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> on Tuesday, March 28.)<\/p>\n That same month, the Bodyguard<\/em> actor made headlines once again when Puck<\/em><\/a> published an expos\u00e9 claiming Costner and Sheridan\u2019s tension was to blame for the western\u2019s season 5 filming delays<\/a>. The publication cited Costner\u2019s longtime assistant Glenn Kleczkowski<\/strong> allegedly critiquing Sheridan\u2019s show Tulsa King<\/em> as an example of the feud.<\/p>\n \u201cStick to westerns, bro. You don\u2019t know S\u2014T about THIS life,\u201d Kleczkowski reportedly wrote via Instagram in a since-deleted message. \u201cStay in your lane, country boy. I\u2019m actually embarrassed for you as a writer and creator.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the Dances With Wolves<\/em> star\u2019s lawyer Marty Singer<\/strong> shut down the claims<\/a>, telling the outlet, \u201cThe idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone<\/em> is an absolute lie.\u201d Singer insisted that his client is \u201cincredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite all the offscreen issues, the Yellowstone<\/em> stars that did attend Saturday\u2019s panel had nothing but good things to say about Costner<\/a> and his participation on the series.<\/p>\n \u201cI think sometimes people have chemistry naturally and sometimes they don\u2019t, and they have to fake it and it still works.
