Gina Rodriguez<\/strong><\/a> was just as in the dark as the Lucky 13<\/em> contestants about executive producer Kevin Bacon<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s onscreen appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey told us that we were having a special guest. It was kind of out of the blue the night before. They were like, \u2018There\u2019ll be a special guest tomorrow, so just be prepared.\u2019 And then they didn\u2019t tell us,\u201d the host exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> ahead of the Thursday, August 15, episode of the hit ABC game show. \u201cThen right before I went on they were like, \u2018During the Kevin Bacon question, Kevin Bacon is going to come out.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodriguez, 40, wasn\u2019t expecting to cross paths with Bacon<\/a>, 66, despite him being involved with the show behind the scenes. (The actor made a brief appearance on Thursday\u2019s episode after a trivia question was posed to a contestant about whether Bacon has a vegan cookbook. Spoiler alert: he doesn\u2019t.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI found out on the internet that I am two degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Then that morning I was like, \u2018I\u2019m one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon.\u2019 When he came out, I was legitimately shook \u2014 and I don\u2019t really get that shook,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI\u2019ve also been in the industry for over 10 years and I\u2019ve met a lot of incredible human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhile many TV shows have made household names out of their star players, occasionally showrunners have been able to corral some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest names to drop in for a surprising cameo during a complete episode or a single scene. Perhaps one of the most polarizing cameos belonged to Ed Sheeran on HBO\u2019s Game of [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a fan of Bacon\u2019s work, Rodriguez was excited about the unexpected opportunity<\/a>, adding, \u201cI am a massive fan of Kevin Bacon. So when he came out and he was just there in the flesh, I was like, \u2018Oh s\u2014t, you are Kevin Bacon and you are here.’\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cIt\u2019s a pretty hysterical moment. Then he leaves just like that \u2014 just like a beautiful angel. [Or] like a beautiful unicorn that shows up and then disappears. It was pretty surreal, I\u2019m not going to lie. I think the reactions are going to show how absolutely blown away myself and [cohost] Shaquille O\u2019Neal<\/strong> were.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucky 13<\/em>, which premiered on ABC in July, is a high-stakes game show that tests contestants\u2019 knowledge with 13 true-or-false trivia questions. The twist? Each contestant competing for the grand prize of $1 million<\/a> has to accurately predict how successfully they answered the questions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite game shows were the old school ones. I love Family Feud<\/em>. We went really hard in our house to the point where we bought the game and played Family Feud<\/em> in the house during Christmas time. I did study Steve Harvey<\/strong> [for this gig] because I\u2019m definitely a Family Feud<\/em> and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire<\/em> fan. And I actually really studied Elizabeth Banks<\/strong> in Press Your Luck<\/em>,\u201d Rodriguez shared about getting into the moon as a host. \u201cElizabeth \u2014 like myself \u2014 is an actress and director, and she just comes at it with such a love for the human perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bear, which debuted on Hulu in June 2022, introduced viewers to The Beef restaurant, which was taken over by Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) following the death of his [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rodriguez was surprised when she was initially offered the chance to join the show.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI was first asked to join this project by Shaquille. I mean, who says no to Shaquille O\u2019Neal? Not I! But I was like, \u2018This is definitely very different for me.\u2019 It was nothing I was actually ever really interested in before Shaquille O\u2019Neal approached me,\u201d she admitted. \u201cBut I had to figure out how it was going to make sense for me because I had never really hosted before. \u2026 For me, I was excited to give people money. So it was coming from that perspective of how do I fit into this? Oh, I want people to walk away happy and with money.\u201d<\/p>\n

The transition from acting to hosting was not without its challenges.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was vastly different from making a TV show. You are in front of a live audience,\u201d Rodriguez noted. \u201cIt\u2019s like there are 200 strangers that don\u2019t know the industry that are kind of getting a sneak peek into the skeletal process of making anything really artistic in front of the camera. It can be a little nerve-wracking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodriguez also pointed out how \u201cnonstop\u201d the filming process was, saying, \u201cI am standing for 12 hours in heels and my feet are broken. When you\u2019re doing a TV show, there\u2019s a lot of downtime. You set up a shot, shoot it and then you can go work on lines or you can relax or decompress. With this, you are on from the start throughout the whole day in front of a bunch of strangers. and you do not stop. It\u2019s like the train is out of the station and you\u2019re holding on for dear life.\u201d<\/p>\n
