An Anthony Bourdain<\/strong><\/a> biopic is in the works \u2014\u00a0and Dominic Sessa<\/strong> is in talks to star as s the late celebrity chef.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deadline<\/i><\/a><\/span> <\/i>reported on Monday, August 12, that Sessa, 21, is attached to portray Bourdain in the project, titled Tony.<\/i> Matt Johnson<\/strong> (Blackberry<\/i>) will direct the film, with a script from Todd Bartels<\/strong> and Lou Howe<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A24 is in talks to produce with Trevor White<\/strong> and Tim White<\/strong> under their Star Thrower Entertainment banner, along with Johnson and Matthew Miller. Emily Rose<\/strong> is an executive producer.<\/span><\/p>\n

A representative for A24 had no comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The dramedy scored an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and a Best Supporting Actress trophy for Sessa\u2019s costar Da\u2019Vine Joy Randolph<\/strong>, who portrayed grieving mother Mary Lamb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bourdain died by suicide<\/a> at the age of 61 in Strasbourg, France, in June 2018 while he was in the country to film his Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown<\/i> docuseries for CNN.\u00a0 His friend, Eric Ripert<\/strong>, found him unresponsive in his hotel room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Days later, Anthony\u2019s mother, Gladys Bourdain<\/strong>, paid tribute to her \u201cfeisty and very talented\u201d<\/span><\/a> son during a June 11 emotional interview with the Today<\/i> <\/span><\/a>show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t disguise anything or take on any act or persona,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was who he was and it was out there for everyone to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gladys, a former editor at The New York Times<\/i>, told the outlet at the time that Anthony \u201chad been in a dark mood\u201d<\/span><\/a> in the days before his death but she never \u201cdreamed\u201d he \u201cwould do something like this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Months after his death, Bourdain was remembered by a bevy of celebrity friends in the book Anthony Bourdain Remembered,<\/i> which featured tributes from pals including former President Barack <\/span><\/a>Obama<\/span><\/a><\/strong> and filmmaker Ken Burns<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
