Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles<\/strong><\/a> opened up about the moment her coach C\u00e9cile Canqueteau-Landi<\/strong> stood up for her after receiving online criticism following her bronze-medal winning floor routine.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHaving her by my side, sticking up for me, I think it\u2019s really cool, because you never know with what social media \u2013 Social media just sucks in general,\u201d Jordan, 23, said during an interview with Access Hollywood<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, August 8. \u201cBut I appreciate what she did, and I can\u2019t thank her enough. With times like that, it does get hard. Mentally, physically, emotionally for a lot of people, so I do thank her for that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Jordan\u2019s comments come just two days after Cecile took to social media to defend the Olympian, saying, \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have to explain but I will ONCE.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cJordan\u2019s highest possible [start value] on floor is a 5.9\u2014At quals and team finals she received a 5.8 and we didn\u2019t question it because we saw that not all the elements were completed,\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The controversy stemmed from the August 5 event in which Jordan took home bronze, teammate Simone<\/strong> Biles<\/strong> landed the silver medal and Brazilian gymnast Rebeca<\/strong> Andrade<\/strong> walked away with the gold. Jordan \u2013 who was last to perform at the Paris event finals \u2013 originally scored a 13.666, which put her in fifth place with Romania\u2019s Ana Barbosu<\/strong> and Sabrina<\/strong> Maneca<\/strong>\u2013Voinea<\/strong> tied for the bronze medal position.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n However, Celine and coach Laurent Landi submitted an inquiry to the judges regarding Jordan\u2019s difficulty and start value. Ultimately, her score was boosted by 0.100<\/a>, which bumped her up above Barbosu<\/a> and Maneca-Voinea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n During her interview with Access Hollywood<\/em>, Jordan gushed about how she considers Cecile \u201cas another mom<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s done so much for me just within my gymnastics and within my confidence for myself. When I first moved to Texas, I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen. I don\u2019t know anything like that,\u201d she continued.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The emotions were high following the judges\u2019 decision, but Jordan \u2013 who had lost her voice after cheering on her teammates earlier in the week \u2013 said, \u201cThis is just a dream come true. It\u2019s my first time ever in an event final<\/a>. Like we said, it was a redemption tour. I just wanted to come out and do the best I could. This medal means everything. I have no words.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere was so many emotions. Obviously if you look at the pictures, I\u2019m crying, boohooing. The most ugliest cry I\u2019ve ever seen myself do. But I think just in that moment, it just it felt right,\u201d she told Access Hollywood<\/em>. \u201cIt felt like, \u2018Wow, I actually did something.\u2019 You know, what had happened, it could go either way. It could go up, it could go down, it could stay the same. I was just happy. And my coaches, and I\u2019m pretty sure even Simone [Biles] said, that she was more happy for me than for herself.
