The agency now hopes to require callers to say, while seeking that consent, whether they plan to use AI for future calls and messages, the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fcc.gov\/public\/attachments\/DOC-404567A1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FCC writes<\/a>. Similar disclosures would have to be added to any AI-generated phone calls, which the agency says \u201ccontain an enhanced risk of fraud and other scams.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The regulator <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fcc.gov\/public\/attachments\/FCC-24-84A1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggests<\/a> defining an \u201cAI generated call\u201d as any that uses technology to create \u201can artificial or prerecorded voice or a text using computational technology or other machine learning, including predictive algorithms, and large language models, to process natural language and produce voice or text content to communicate with a called party over an outbound telephone call.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Finally the agency hopes to carve out an exception for when those with speech and hearing disabilities use AI-generated voice software to help them communicate on outbound phone calls. The FCC would also require that there be no \u201cunsolicited advertisement\u201d in such calls, and that people on the receiving end of the phone calls not be charged for them.
