It\u2019s safe to say that Australian breakdancer Rachael \u201cRaygun\u201d Gunn<\/strong> has taken the internet by storm.<\/p>\n

Gunn competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics<\/a>\u2018 first-ever breakdancing event<\/a> on August 9, facing off against France\u2019s Sya Demb\u00e9l\u00e9<\/strong> in the preliminary phase of the competition. Though she failed to score a point, losing 0-2 to the teenage breaking sensation, her unique dance moves quickly became the talk of the town shortly after competing.<\/p>\n

In the leadup to the big day, Gunn \u2013 whose Olympic debut was at age 36 \u2013 told CNBC<\/a> how the younger B-Girls\u2019 style of dance would ultimately differ from those who skew a little older in age, and how it could affect each breakdancer\u2019s overall score, which is based on originality and creativity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe younger competitors are great in their strength, fitness and explosiveness. But the older ones bring a different level of maturity to the dance,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cMy specialty is style and creativity, not dynamics or power moves like many other dancers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gunn has always had an appreciation and passion for all forms of dance, as she explained in a throwback post via Instagram<\/a> in July 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember going to the Sydney 2000 Olympics and never in a million years thinking that one day I would be an Olympian. I was always a dancer \u2013 ballet, ballroom, jazz, tap, you name it,\u201d she captioned a carousel of photos, one of which showed her in a pink tutu when she was a young girl.<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI\u2019m so excited that at this year\u2019s Olympics<\/a> we get an opportunity to show the world the athleticism, dedication and mastery that\u2019s required to succeed in dance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rachael Gunn Has an Impressive Day Job<\/h3>\n

Not only is Gunn an Olympian, the Australian athlete is a lecturer at Sydney\u2019s Macquarie University with a PhD in cultural studies.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs Team USA takes on the 2024 Paris Olympics, the American athletes have already made an impression at the summer Games. The 2024 Olympics kicked off on Friday, July 26, with an illustrious opening ceremony that took place entirely outdoors on the River Seine and featured performances from the likes of Celine Dion and Lady [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a week since I qualified for the Olympics and [to be honest] I\u2019m still processing it. I\u2019ve been so exhausted since the qualifier, not just physically but also mentally,\u201d she wrote in part. \u201cBut I\u2019m also so pumped for what\u2019s next. I can\u2019t wait to push myself even harder in my training. I can\u2019t wait to represent my style, my crew, my city, my country, my region.\u201d<\/p>\n
