Jessica Simpson<\/a> is setting the record straight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n On Monday, the singer clapped back at someone who commented that she “STOP DRINKING!” on an <\/span>Instagram<\/a> post celebrating her son Ace’s 11th birthday. The 44-year-old mother of three quickly made it clear that she’s still sober and has been for quite some time.<\/span><\/p>\n “I haven’t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself and for my family,” Simpson wrote. “Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way.”<\/span><\/p>\n For someone whose username is “nunyabusiness” in part, the critic should really mind their own!<\/span><\/p>\n Simpson, who also shares 12-year-old Maxwell and <\/span>5-year-old Birdie<\/a> with <\/span>husband<\/a> <\/span>Eric Johnson<\/a>, has been sober for almost seven years and has <\/span>openly discussed her journey with sobriety<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Last year, the singer celebrated her <\/span>six-year anniversary<\/a> of getting sober, <\/span>sharing a throwback photo and reflecting on how far she’s come<\/a> since she decided to stop drinking. In the shot, Simpson wears a pink tracksuit as she sits on a small pouf on the floor. She’s surrounded by darkness save for a sliver of what appears to be sunlight on half her face. She gazes away from the camera with her hands clasped together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “This person in the early morning of Nov. 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself,” she posted in the image’s original caption, which was <\/span>first shared in 2021<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity,” she continued. “Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward – never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Simpson talked more about <\/span>her decision to quit drinking<\/a> in her memoir, <\/span>Open Book<\/em><\/a>, where she shared that a hazy Halloween in 2017 led her to quit for good.<\/span><\/p>\n “I’m very conscious in my mind even if I’m not speaking it. Like, ‘Ugh I cant believe you have to do this.’ I was disappointed in myself, but I would still pour the drink because I didn’t know how I could make it through,” <\/span>Simpson told ET<\/a> in February 2020. “I didn’t know I could be strong enough without it, and really I’m way stronger without and I didn’t realize. I thought that that was gonna me help me through life. I didn’t know that it was keeping me from living my life.”<\/span><\/p>\n
