She finished sixth in her heat with a time of 1:03.09, slower than her 1:00.37 time from her run at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Following her failed qualification, the professional athlete <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C967qPFg4HC\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced her retirement<\/a> from the sport in an emotional post on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s official now! I\u2019m retiring from swimming,\u201d she wrote on July 27. \u201cThank you all so much for the support! Sorry Paraguay, I only have to thank you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead of supporting her teammates at the Games, she was accused of sneaking out to Disneyland and was flown home as punishment, according to local news reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,\u201d <strong>Larissa Schaerer<\/strong>, the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee boss said in a statement. \u201cWe thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes\u2019 Village.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:66.75%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"photo-credit\"><span class=\"credit\">Getty<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee,<strong> Camilo Perez<\/strong>, also commented on the situation, telling a Paraguayan radio station, \u201cWe are a serious team that seeks to compete, not to go sightseeing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luana was accused of \u201cdistracting\u201d her fellow competitors by wearing skimpy clothes \u2014 wearing her own choice of clothes rather than the official kit provided by Paraguayan team chiefs \u2014 and socializing with other athletes, according to a separate report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/olympics\/article-13711033\/luana-alonso-paris-village-banned-disney-olympics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Daily Mail.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is common for athletes to stay at the Olympics until the closing ceremony and participate in festivities in the host city. However, the Olympian, who studies political science at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, has since gone home.<\/p>\n<p>After her final race on July 27, the swimmer penned a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C9-5agZgRSD\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> heartfelt message<\/a> expressing her admiration for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwimming: thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline and many more,\u201d she captioned an Instagram post. \u201cI gave you part of my life and I don\u2019t change it for anything in the world because I lived the best experiences of my life, you gave me thousands of joys, friends from other countries that I will always carry them in my heart, unique opportunities. It\u2019s not goodbye, it\u2019s see you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luana\u2019s unexpected departure follows the dismissal of another Olympian, 22-year-old <strong>Ana Carolina Vieira<\/strong>, from the Brazilian team for reportedly sneaking out of the athletes\u2019 village at night with her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>She allegedly became \u201cdisrespectful and aggressive\u201d when the Brazilian Olympic Committee confronted her about it, leading to her being sent home.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian swimmer broke her silence on the situation on July 28, writing via Instagram that \u201ccommunication failure destroyed\u201d her Olympic dream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very sad about the way I left the Olympic Games,\u201d she said in Portuguese, which was translated to English. \u201cI was going to swim one more competition, but I will continue to cheer on everyone that is still there. The whole crew that is still competing.
