House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> is gearing up for the most epic battle yet in the Dance of Dragons — but there’s plenty more drama to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>prequel series is set to conclude its second season in epic fashion in Sunday’s finale. However, before season 2 even premiered, <\/span>House of the Dragon<\/span><\/em> was already greenlit for a third season on HBO and Max.<\/span><\/p>\n

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of <\/span>House of the Dragon<\/span><\/em>,” said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season 2, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season 3.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The new season will likely continue to explore the “Dance of Dragons” storyline, drawing from author George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book\u00a0<\/span>Fire & Blood<\/span><\/em>. The series is set\u00a0nearly 200 years before the events of <\/span>Game of Thrones<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s expected that many of the season 2 stars (at least those who survive the finale) will return for the new episodes, including\u00a0Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, Olivia Cooke, Graham McTavish, Matthew Needham, Harry Collett, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Kurt Egyiawan, Kieran Bew, Abubakar Salim, Tom Taylor, Clinton Liberty, Tom Bennett, Ellora Torchia, Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to <\/span>House of the Dragon<\/span><\/em>, another <\/span>Game of Thrones <\/span><\/em>prequel series is currently in the works. <\/span>A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/span><\/em>, based on Martin’s\u00a0<\/span>Tales of Dunk and Egg\u00a0<\/span><\/em>novellas, was greenlit in early 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series will star\u00a0Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, aka “Dunk,” a hedge knight, and\u00a0Dexter Sol Ansell\u00a0as Aegon V Targaryen, aka “Egg,” who serves as Ser Duncan’s squire in his early years. The six-episode first season is set to premiere on HBO in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

House of the Dragon<\/span><\/em>\u00a0seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on HBO and Max. The series will return for season 3.<\/span><\/p>\n
