Former President Donald Trump has expressed a newfound fondness for Mark Zuckerberg after years<\/a> of railing<\/a> against him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In an interview with Fox Business<\/em> that aired Friday, Trump said Mark Zuckerberg recently called him \u201cto apologize\u201d over Meta\u2019s AI assistant falsely saying<\/a> the assassination attempt on Trump didn\u2019t happen. (A company blog post written by Joel Kaplan, Meta\u2019s global head of policy, attributed the erroneous responses to \u201challucinations\u201d in the system.) In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed that both Meta and Google were \u201cRIGGING THE ELECTION!!!\u201d by suppressing information about the shooting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Zuckerberg\u2019s apology could help thaw his contentious relationship with Trump, who has held a long, public grudge against Meta and its chief executive. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI believe Mark Zuckerberg, he called me a lot. They are working on, and I think they fixed it. He\u2019s not doing what he did five years ago, with the $500 million dollars, I don\u2019t believe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump\u2019s $500 million comment may have referred to incorrect claims that Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan spent $400 million in 2020 to elect Joe Biden<\/a>. Zuckerberg and his wife did not donate those funds to Biden, but to two nonprofit organizations that gave grants to state and local governments to help them pay for election administration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump also said Zuckerberg complimented his reaction to being shot at<\/a>, adding that Zuckerberg said he wouldn\u2019t endorse a Democrat in this year\u2019s presidential election because of the respect he has for Trump.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cMark Zuckerberg called me \u2014 first of all, he called me a few times,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHe called me after the event and he said, \u2018That was really amazing, it was really brave.\u2019 And he actually announced he\u2019s not going to support a Democrat, because he can\u2019t, because he respected me for what I did that day.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n When reached for comment, Meta spokesperson Dany Lever directed The Verge<\/em> to a post on X<\/a> by Meta communications head Andy Stone, which notes that Zuckerberg hasn\u2019t endorsed candidates in earlier elections either.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump\u2019s grudge against Google, however, persists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cGoogle, nobody called from Google,\u201d Trump said during the Fox Business<\/em> interview. Google has been accused of \u201ccensoring\u201d search terms related to the shooting at Trump\u2019s rally in Pennsylvania. Google communications posted a thread on X<\/a> refuting those claims, but Trump and conservative media have continued to accuse it of suppressing information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
