Emily Henry<\/strong> has officially taken over the rom-com book world \u2014 and she\u2019s about to bring some of her stories to life on screen.<\/p>\n

Henry, along with Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company, announced in July 2024 that her novel Funny Story<\/em>, which was released three months prior, would be turned into a film.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a draft of a script, and as soon as I finish this letter to you, I\u2019m diving back into it,\u201d Henry wrote in her newsletter at the time, alongside a selfie of her holding the script for Funny Story<\/em>. \u201cBecause we\u2019re all chomping at the bit to get this made.\u201d<\/p>\n

Henry previously discussed her dream cast<\/a> for the movie with Us Weekly<\/em>, agreeing that Logan Lerman<\/strong> is a perfect fit for leading man Miles and Camila Morrone<\/strong> for Daphne. Henry also approved Glen Powell<\/strong> taking on the role of Peter, Daphne\u2019s ex-boyfriend.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore you even said that, it popped into my head,\u201d Henry told Us<\/em> at the time. \u201cThat either means I\u2019m psychic or we\u2019re really onto something that feels right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Henry also included Meghann Fahy, Rain Spencer, Sydney Chandler, Hilary Duff, Jenna Fischer, Jennifer Coolidge<\/strong> and Dennis Quaid<\/strong> as part of her possible dream cast.<\/p>\n

Released in May 2020, Beach Read<\/em> follows romance writer January, who is stuck in a literary rut and attempts to write a new novel while staying in her family\u2019s old beach house for the summer. When she arrives, she runs into Augustus Everett, her former college rival and now-acclaimed literary fiction author, who ends up living next door to her. The twosome reconnect and challenge each other to write in each other\u2019s genres.<\/p>\n

In April 2023, Henry announced that Beach Read<\/em> was being adapted into a movie directed by fellow romance author Yulin Kuang<\/strong>. She later shared that a \u201cfantastic\u201d first draft exists, which is \u201cso different\u201d than she expected.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSummer is officially upon Us, which means it\u2019s time to get those beach reads ready, and romance is the genre of choice. One romance novel Us Weekly can\u2019t get enough of this summer is The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren. The coauthor duo \u2014 comprised of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings \u2014 recently opened up [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt feels like a big swing, which I am all about because I think the worst thing that a movie can be is boring and mediocre. If we\u2019re doing this, let\u2019s really go for it,\u201d she told Variety<\/em><\/a> in March 2024. \u201cYulin is working on the next draft now, and it should be ready to do more with very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Released in May 2021, People We Meet on Vacation<\/em> tells the story of two best friends, Poppy and Alex, who have met for a vacation every summer for a decade. After something goes awry on one of their trips, they stop speaking for two years.<\/p>\n

Henry announced in October 2022 that the novel would be headed to the big screen with Brett Haley<\/strong> as the director. Kuang signed on as the screenwriter.<\/p>\n

In March 2024, Henry told Variety<\/em><\/a> that the People We Meet on Vacation<\/em> screenplay \u201chas gone through a lot of different drafts,\u201d noting that Kuang was working on her own debut novel at the same time.<\/p>\n

Five months later, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported that Tom Blyth<\/strong> and Emily Bader<\/strong> are set to star in the project, which will be Henry\u2019s first movie to go into production.<\/p>\n

Following its release in May 2022, Henry and production company Tango announced in March 2023 that Book Lovers<\/em> would be turned into a movie. Girls<\/em> writer Sarah Heyward<\/strong> is set to write the script.<\/p>\n

Book Lovers<\/em> tells the story of Nora, a literary agent, who is convinced by her sister to spend one August holiday in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, where she continues to run into Charlie, a book editor. Nora must eventually decide if it\u2019s worth changing her whole life for a happily ever after.<\/p>\n

While Henry has yet to share any casting decisions, fans speculated that Normal People\u2019s<\/em> Paul Mescal<\/strong> and The Bear\u2019s<\/em> Ayo Edebiri<\/strong> may be attached to the project<\/a> after Mescal said he wanted to do a rom-com in the next five years with Edebiri. The pair also posed for a pic together in March 2024, which Henry reposted via her Instagram Story, further fueling the rumors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t confirm or deny anything with casting for any movie. I will say that those are two of my favorite \u2018Irish\u2019 actors,\u201d Henry told Variety<\/em><\/a> that month. (While Mescal is actually from Ireland, Edeberi has long been joking about having Irish heritage<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u2018Happy Place\u2019<\/h3>\n

Happy Place<\/em>, released in April 2023, follows recent exes Harriet Kilpatrick and Wyn Connor as they pretend to still be together on a group trip with their friends. The pair try to work through the obstacles of their relationship and breakup \u2014 and eventually discover what their \u201chappy place\u201d means to them.<\/p>\n

In June 2024, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported that Jennifer Lopez\u2019s<\/strong> production company, Nuyorican Productions, will develop a TV adaptation of the novel.<\/p>\n
