Ilona Maher<\/strong><\/a> won a Bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, but the women\u2019s rugby player should get an award for her comedic shade. The professional athlete clapped back at a body shamer<\/a> via TikTok<\/a> before she dominated the field with Team USA.<\/p>\n \u201cI bet that person has a 30 [percent] BMI,\u201d a person wrote about Ilona, 27, alongside a laughing emoji.<\/p>\n Ilona had no problem responding to the hate and slammed the critic with factual shade.<\/p>\n \u201cHi, thank you for this comment. I think you were trying to roast me,\u201d the Vermont native said as she kicked off the quick-witted video posted on July 10. \u201cBut this is actually a fact I do have a BMI of 30 well, 29.3 to be more exact, I\u2019ve been considered overweight my whole life. In middle school, elementary school, high school \u2013 I was always considered overweight.\u201d<\/p>\n Ilona told a story from high school when she had to turn in her physical paperwork to the office. She was \u201cembarrassed to turn that in\u201d because \u201cright at the bottom of the page, it said overweight.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the years, Ilona consulted with her dietitian, specifically about BMI, and learned that it \u201creally isn\u2019t helpful for athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt just tells you what your height and weight and what that equals. I\u2019ve said it before. I\u2019m 5 feet 10 inches, 200 pounds and I have about, and this is an estimate \u2013 but about 100 and 70 pounds of lean mass on me,\u201d she explained. \u201cDo that math in your head. You probably can\u2019t. That\u2019s pretty crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n Ilona listed that BMI \u201cdoesn\u2019t tell you what I do in the field,\u201d nor does it reflect how \u201cfit\u201d she is.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just a couple numbers put together. It doesn\u2019t tell you how much muscle I have or anything like that,\u201d she continued. \u201cSo, yeah, I do have a BMI of 30. I am considered overweight but, alas, I\u2019m going to the Olympics<\/a> \u2013 and you\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n The Quinnipiac University alum\u2019s followers got a kick out of the video and recited their favorite parts of the clapback in the comments section.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018I\u2019m going to the Olympics and you\u2019re not\u2019 was absolute [fire emoji],\u201d one person wrote, while a second follower commented, \u201c\u2018You probably can\u2019t\u2019 loved this whole post, but that, that was perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n Ilona not only made it to the 2024 Olympics, but she and her teammates made history by winning the United States\u2019 first-ever medal for the sport by taking home bronze in the women\u2019s rugby sevens game.<\/p>\n The lipstick queen got emotional in a post-game interview and expressed her gratitude for how far she and the team have come since the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n Before they took home a big win for the U.S. fans were loving the women\u2019s rugby team\u2019s viral content on TikTok.
