The accomplished performer passed away from pneumonia on Monday (29.07.24) at an assisted living facility in Encino, California, his 59-year-old son \u2013 the director and photographer Eden Tyler Banas \u2013 told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday (30.07.24.)<\/p>\n
Bobby\u2019s official Instagram account also shared the news of his death, with a post on Monday that said: \u201cToday was the day that Bobby Banas chose to soar up into the infinite light of the heavens above. <\/p>\n
\u201cA son, brother, father, grandfather and a true legend of stage and screen. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou played with the best of them. You touched and taught so many, gave of your talents and generosity always with a laugh and funny sense of humour. \u201cThanks for being the best pop a kid could ask for. I will love you forever and ever… I know the dance party up above is going to be amazing!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
\nProbably best known for playing \u2018Jets\u2019 gang member Joyboy in 1961\u2019s \u2018West Side Story\u2019 musical, Bobby was also cast as a chimney sweep in \u2018Mary Poppins\u2019 three years later.<\/p>\n
\nHis other notable film appearances include a dancing role in \u2018Made in Paris\u2019 \u2013 and he kissed Marilyn Monroe in the 1960 musical comedy \u2018Let\u2019s Make Love\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHe also had parts in Elvis Presley\u2019s \u2018Girl Happy\u2019 film, 1958\u2019s \u2018Damn Yankees\u2019, \u2018Babes In Toyland\u2019 from 1961 and \u2018Bye Bye Birdie\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nBorn in New York on 22 September, 1933, Bobby started taking dance lessons as a teen.<\/p>\n
\nHe attended the Hollywood Professional High School and Hollywood High, and became a member of the Michael Panaieff Children\u2019s Ballet Company.<\/p>\n
\nBobby won a new legion of fans in 2012 when a clip of him surfaced of him and others dancing the \u2018Nitty Gritty\u2019 on a 1964 episode of CBS\u2019 \u2018The Judy Garland Show\u2019 went viral.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
