Rob Lowe<\/strong><\/a> says a sequel to St. Elmo\u2019s Fire<\/i> is in the works.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lowe, 60, teased the project during an interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/i><\/span><\/a> <\/i>on Monday, July 29.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve met with the studio and I have been talking about doing it for about four months,\u201d the actor revealed of plans for a potential follow-up. St. Elmo\u2019s Fire<\/i>, released in 1985, showcased Lowe and fellow Brat Packers Andrew McCarthy<\/strong>, Emilio Estevez<\/strong>, Demi Moore<\/strong>, Ally Sheedy<\/strong> and Judd Nelson<\/strong> as college graduates navigating the ups and downs of young adulthood. Lowe, then in his 20s and at the height of his heartthrob powers, sported a mullet and chiseled jawline to play troubled saxophonist Billy Hicks.<\/span><\/p>\n

In June, McCarthy, who played broody writer Kevin Dolenz, released the Hulu documentary Brats<\/i>, about his difficulties coping with the \u201cBrat Pack<\/span><\/a>\u201d label coined by New York<\/i> magazine journalist David Blum<\/strong> the year that St. Elmo\u2019s Fire<\/i> hit theaters. While McCarthy, 61, blames Blum for stalling his acting career, Lowe \u2014\u00a0who appears briefly in the doc \u2014\u00a0has come to embrace his legacy within the Brat Pack, a group of actors who embodied 1980s youth culture and starred in beloved coming-of-age movies from The Breakfast Club<\/i> to Pretty in Pink<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRob Lowe has had quite the successful career in Hollywood, filled with his fair share of ups and downs. Lowe was born in March 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia, but later moved to Dayton, Ohio. While he was in high school, Rob, his mom, Barbara Hepler, and his brother, Chad Lowe, moved to Malibu, California, where [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As for a potential St. Elmo\u2019s Fire<\/i> sequel, Lowe told Entertainment Tonight<\/i> that the buzz around Brats<\/em> has \u201conly added to the excitement around it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s very, very, very, very, very early stages,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we will see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For now, Lowe is on a press tour with his son, John Owen Lowe<\/strong>, as they prepare for the second season of their Netflix comedy Unstable<\/i>, which is set to premiere on Thursday, August 1. (John Owen, 29,\u00a0 has never seen St. Elmo\u2019s Fire <\/i>and calls it \u201cSt. Elmers.\u201d)<\/span><\/p>\n

In John Owen\u2019s July 25 appearance on SiriusXM\u2019s<\/span><\/a> Radio Andy<\/i>, he detailed his \u201cmental breakdown\u201d two weeks into filming the first season of the show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Brat Pack was a moniker created by journalist David Blum in a 1985 piece for New York Magazine \u2014 originally set to be a profile following Emilio Estevez. The article made waves by giving Hollywood\u2019s young movie stars a name \u2014 but it took the stars a long time to appreciate their nickname \u201cIt\u2019s [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI walked off set and I went into my trailer, and I went, \u2018Oh s\u2014t. I was trying to become my own person and get distance away from him and I am now his costar. My face is next to his on a one-sheet and I\u2019ll be doing press with him,\u2019\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt was like all these realizations dawned on me and I remember calling my representatives, which is so funny.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
