The Doctor Who <\/em>franchise is about to get even bigger with a new spinoff series that, interestingly, doesn\u2019t seem like it\u2019s going to focus on everyone\u2019s favorite Time Lord<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n During the Doctor Who <\/em>panel at this year\u2019s San Diego Comic-Con<\/a>, Disney and the BBC announced that The War Between The Land And The Sea <\/em>\u2014 a new series written by Russell T. Davies and Pete McTighe \u2014 is on the way. Rather than the Doctor, the new show will revolve around a group of humans as they work together to face the Sea Devils, a race of ancient, ocean-dwelling creatures who first appeared in Doctor Who <\/em>back in 1972.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient are set to reprise their roles as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Ibrahim, respectively, but they will also be joined by Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as characters not yet revealed. Previously, Tovey and Mbatha-Raw both starred in Doctor Who \u2014<\/em>he as Titanic midshipman Alonso Frame<\/a>, and she as Tish Jones<\/a> \u2014 but it\u2019s not clear whether that\u2019s who they\u2019ll be playing here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In a press release about the new show, Davies called it \u201ca huge, muscular, thrilling drama which will shake The Whoniverse to its foundations,\u201d and while we don\u2019t know when to expect its debut, it\u2019s scheduled to begin shooting in August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
