The 2023 CMT Awards<\/a> were held in Austin, Texas for the first time, and the ceremony got a warm welcome from Matthew McConaughey<\/strong><\/a>, who made a surprise appearance on the Sunday, April 2 CBS show.<\/p>\n Early in the evening, cohost Kelsea Ballerini<\/strong> <\/a>introduced the new trophy that nominees were vying for. \u201cThe first award is coming up, and since this our first show in Texas, we are proud to present our brand new, custom made, Texas CMT trophy,\u201d the \u201cBlindsided\u201d songstress, 29, told the audience.<\/p>\n It didn\u2019t look very different from the standard CMT Music Award. \u201cI know what you\u2019re thinking. That is the regular CMT trophy, but I assure you it\u2019s as Texas as it gets. Are you ready? Check it out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Bellerini pressed a red button at the base of the award, and McConaughey\u2019s iconic line from the 1993 film Dazed and Confused<\/em> <\/a>played: \u201cAlright, alright, alright.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cI Quit Drinking\u201d singer continued, \u201cYeah, that\u2019s right. It\u2019s the CMMT award. The extra M stands for McConaughey. Let\u2019s hand one of these babies out.\u201d<\/p>\n On the giant screen behind her at the Moody Center, McConaughey, 53, suddenly popped up. \u201cYes, Kelsea. Thank you. I will take one of those,\u201d the Texas native said.<\/p>\n However, Ballerini wasn\u2019t letting him score an honor without putting in the work. \u201cNo, no, sorry, Matthew. You\u2019ve gotta win them just like everyone else!\u201d she said before introducing the next presenter.<\/p>\n His brief cameo with the \u201cIf You Go Down (I\u2019m Goin\u2019 Down Too)\u201d performer came amid the news that his Yellowstone<\/em> spinoff is moving forward<\/a>, ViacomCBS president Chris McCarthy<\/strong> confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> on Friday, March 31. Further details about the new series, including its title, have yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n McConaughey was one of several members of the Yellowstone<\/em> family<\/a> who took part in Sunday\u2019s awards show. Lainey Wilson<\/strong><\/a> (who plays Abby) took the stage to perform with Alanis Morissette<\/strong> <\/a>while Ian Bohen<\/strong> (who portrays Ryan) and Jennifer Landon<\/strong> (who plays Teeter) presented.<\/p>\n The McConaughey-led spinoff is already getting interest from actors within the Yellowstone universe. During PaleyFest in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 2, Yellowstone star Dawn Olivieri<\/strong> (Sarah Atwood) revealed she\u2019d want to join the spinoff. \u201cThe one with Matthew McConaughey! Well, alright. Alright. Alright. No, that\u2019s the only one,\u201d she exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> when asked which spinoff she\u2019d want to appear on. \u201cThat\u2019s the only one.
