The first batch of third-party apps are making their way onto AltStore PAL<\/a>, just over three months after the alternative iOS app marketplace first launched in the EU. Three out of the four apps being released today are exclusive to AltStore PAL<\/a> and can\u2019t be found on Apple\u2019s official iOS App Store. The apps developed by people other than AltStore PAL co-creator Riley Testut include two torrenting apps and a social discovery app for dating.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Specifically, the new additions include iTorrent<\/a>, an iOS torrent client that can be used without jailbreaking iPhones or iPads, and qBitControl<\/a>, a qBittorrent<\/a> remote client for iOS devices. PeopleDrop<\/a> is a dating-focused<\/a> \u201csocial discovery platform\u201d that connects you with other users in the real world as they pass by. And finally, there\u2019s the UTM SE<\/a> app for emulating other operating systems like Windows, Linux, and macOS on iOS.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Apple bans all torrent apps on its own iOS store, claiming that they\u2019re<\/a> \u201coften used for the purpose of infringing third-party rights.\u201d But now that the EU\u2019s Digital Markets Act<\/a> has weakened the tech giant\u2019s ability to police its walled garden, iOS users within the bloc can exercise a bit more freedom \u2014 and accept more risk \u2014 over the apps they choose to install.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
