There\u2019s no slow-burn love story like\u00a0Abbott Elementary<\/i><\/a>\u2019s Janine Teagues and Gregory Eddie, and star Tyler James Williams<\/strong><\/a> concurs.<\/p>\n \u201cI love the innocent places we get to go to,\u201d the 30-year-old actor, who stars as Gregory opposite Quinta Brunson<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Janine on the ABC sitcom, exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>at PaleyFest in Los Angeles<\/a> on Saturday, April 1. \u201c[And] that we\u2019re not trying to make this too complicated or sexy. It\u2019s the little moments and it\u2019s reminding people that that\u2019s what courting relationships are \u2026 it\u2019s the little moments. That\u2019s what I love most.\u201d<\/p>\n Abbott Elementary\u00a0<\/i>\u2014 created by Brunson, 33 \u2014 premiered in December 2021. The half-hour sitcom follows a group of teachers at a public school<\/a> in Philadelphia. Sheryl Lee Ralph<\/strong><\/a>, Lisa Ann Walter<\/strong><\/a>, Janelle James<\/strong>, Chris Perfetti<\/strong> and William Stanford Davis<\/strong> also star. The first season commenced with Williams\u2019 Gregory<\/a> starting as an Abbott substitute educator. While he was finding his way, the ever-peppy Janine \u2014 a full-time teacher \u2014 took it upon herself to show him the ropes. Once the pair started bonding, romantic feelings slowly started developing<\/a> \u2014 despite each dating other people.<\/p>\n Gregory and Janine\u2019s connection reached new heights in season 2 when they finally shared their first kiss<\/a> while attending a teachers\u2019 conference out of town in the February 23 episode. However, the two characters<\/a> quickly chalked their liplock up to drunken antics and agreed to remain friends even though they still had lingering romantic feelings.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d like to see conflict with them. They have to learn how to handle conflict.\u201d the\u00a0Everybody Hates Chris<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>alum, who won a Golden Globe in January<\/a> for his role of Gregory, revealed to\u00a0Us<\/i>\u00a0on Saturday on his hopes for the pair. \u201cThey\u2019re not really good at that and they try and ignore things and move on. I would like to see more conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n The\u00a0Wedding Year\u00a0<\/i>star\u2019s cast mate Ralph, 66, is also a passionate Janine and Gregory shipper<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI love the fact that Gregory is taking time to really, really learn about himself as a man. Janine is taking the time to learn about herself as a woman \u2014 working out some of her sticky relationships. I think that is very important for the two of them because I just love Janine and Gregory,\u201d the\u00a0actress, who plays Barbara Howard, exclusively told\u00a0Us\u00a0<\/i>in February<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m just like, \u2018You all respect it. Be careful and take your time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Ralph continued: \u201cI can\u2019t tell you anything about what\u2019s going to happen with that. But you\u2019re going to learn and see more of people\u2019s families and that\u2019s a wonderful thing. And I honestly believe that this is going to be a season where people are satisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n Abbott Elementary\u00a0<\/i>airs Wednesdays on ABC at 9 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
