Nicole Kidman<\/strong><\/a> took a trip down memory lane while she recalled making Eyes Wide Shut<\/em> with her then-husband, Tom Cruise<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a Tuesday, July 16, interview with the Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>, Kidman, 57, was asked if the film\u2019s director, Stanley Kubrick<\/strong>, was ever \u201cmining\u201d her real-life relationship with Cruise, 62, for inspiration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI suppose he was mining it,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cThere were ideas he was interested in. He\u2019d ask a lot of questions. But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling. I do remember him saying, \u2018Triangles are hard. You have to tread carefully when it\u2019s a triangle.\u2019 Because one person could feel ganged up on. But he was aware of that and knew how to manage us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman clarified that she didn\u2019t feel \u201cganged up on\u201d while filming, but there was clearly a difference between Kubrick\u2019s dynamic with her and Cruise. \u201cThere\u2019s something about being a woman in that equation, too,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd Stanley liked women. He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA true \u201990s power couple. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman\u2018s romance didn\u2019t last, but their relationship remains a subject of fascination for movie fans around the world. The Oscar winner and the Mission: Impossible actor met in early 1990 while filming Tony Scott\u2018s Days of Thunder, in which Cruise played race car driver Cole Trickle [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kidman recalled there being \u201ca lot of talking\u201d for one particular scene where she and Cruise\u2019s characters shared a joint<\/a> in their bedroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Tom and I first started with Stanley, it was at his home, and we didn\u2019t even go over to the sets at Pinewood [Studios],\u201d she explained. \u201cSix, eight weeks passed, and we\u2019re wondering, \u2018Are we ever going to start?\u2019 And we just wouldn\u2019t start. We were getting comfortable with each other, comfortable enough to throw out ideas. For that scene, we improvised the beginning of it through the rehearsals.\u201d<\/p>\n

After filming for two years, Eyes Wide Shut<\/em> premiered in 1999. Kubrick died before the movie\u2019s release. While paying tribute to the legendary director in 2012, Kidman reflected on rumors that Eyes Wide Shut<\/em> led to her and Cruise\u2019s divorce.<\/p>\n
