Lady in the Lake<\/em> wouldn\u2019t be possible without director Alma Har\u2019el<\/strong> leading the way \u2014 at least according to the cast.<\/p>\n

During an exclusive interview ahead of the Apple TV+ show\u2019s premiere<\/a> on Friday, July 19, Us Weekly<\/em> shared with Har\u2019el, 49, some of the praise stars such as Y\u2019lan Noel,<\/strong>\u00a0Dylan Arnold<\/strong> and Brett Gelman<\/strong> had for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying not to cry. I\u2019m sorry,\u201d Har\u2019el said while getting visibly emotional about her impact on the show\u2019s cast. \u201cI think this project was extremely important for me to make sure every one of our actors felt safe and had the space they needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Har\u2019el recalled prioritizing the wellbeing of her cast and crew, adding, \u201cThey needed to not only \u2014 like you said \u2014 feel like they can do their best work. But also to explore and find together who these people are that we\u2019re birthing [on screen] and how to make them authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The seven-episode show, which takes place in 1960s Baltimore, is based on Laura Lippman\u2018s 2019 novel of the same name. While speaking with Us<\/em> about bringing Ferdie to life, Noel, 35, complimented Har\u2019el for giving him the space<\/a> to develop his character.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to show up to work every day and give our best shot. And you are working with some of the best in the business,\u201d Noel explained about the highlights of filming Lady in the Lake. \u201cSo it\u2019s about just making sure that you raise the bar that\u2019s so high. And I think we all did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cAnd Alma is somebody who has a set that allows you to be your best self. I have to thank her for it because she truly is a visionary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSummer is officially upon Us and TV fans are in for some exciting content with shows such as The Bear and Only Murders in the Building. The Bear, which debuted on Hulu in June 2022, introduced viewers to The Beef restaurant, which was taken over by Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) following the death of his [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Arnold, 30, who plays Stephen, had a similar experience with Har\u2019el<\/a>, telling Us<\/em>, \u201cSomething that I really appreciate about having Alma on my side is that she really cares about her actors. She really cares about them feeling good about the work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Gelman, 47, was thrilled with how the cast was able to tell the story<\/a> with Har\u2019el\u2019s help.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlma is almost a very experiential type of director who wants to see it experienced in front of her in all of its truth. And she\u2019s very raw. And it was really exciting,\u201d he shared with Us<\/em>. \u201cAs we were doing the scenes, they became way more visceral and almost savage in a way emotionally than I ever expected it to become. And that was a really exciting way to work, and we just kept plunging into it deeper and deeper and deeper.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before pivoting to TV, Har\u2019el was known for her work on the big screen<\/a> with projects such as Bombay Beach<\/em> and Honey Boy<\/em>. She credits those movies for teaching her how to approach running a large production.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first movie was Bombay Beach<\/em>. It was a documentary and I was alone with my camera, basically. Obviously, Honey Boy<\/em> was an incredibly deep experience that I\u2019ll cherish forever. But it had its own challenges and aftermath and I think this project was extremely important for me,\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cAnd our cast was \u2014 I always say that each one of them was just a star.\u201d<\/p>\n

Har\u2019el called it a \u201cgift\u201d to work with the actors<\/a> from Lady in the Lake<\/em>, adding, \u201cWe had the fortune of working with Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram were like just undeniable giant talents. But then from Y\u2019lan Noel, Byron Bowers, Josiah Cross<\/strong>\u00a0Brett Gelman and Dylan Arnold. And of course Noah Jupe<\/strong>, my partner in crime from Honey Boy. You really touched a nerve and it warms my heart to hear that they\u2019re saying that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Slow Horses was the first show to score a renewal in 2024. In early January, Apple TV+ picked up the series for a fifth season, which will be based on Mick [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
